One down, 35 to go....
Just finished the first week of school. I am exhausted. Only 35 (school) weeks till the next summer vacation! 178 more days.... groan.

1. don't count down the weeks or days
enjoy every one of them! Trust me - when you get into the working world, you only get 2 weeks of vacation and the working world is in most cases much less interesting than the days spent in school. Take a hold of your school experience and make the best out of it - look at it with a Zen type of attitude. Enjoy being young. Enjoy the social connections. Enjoy extra-curricular activities. Enjoy the check-book balancing and utility paying burden being left up to your parents. Enjoy that a good test score or a good grade is left up to you and your studies and not an annual "evaluation" depending on how good you made your boss look without being given the credit.

I'm not trying to make life after school look bad - it really isn't. But your school years are to be enjoyed - you will never know how much until you are out and then it is too late. Enjoy your time in school. I for one would like to go back, have a Zen attitude and enjoy every minute.

4. silly me...
I thought about that when I posted... I went to check your user profile but it wasn't available... so I just "assumed".... my bad.

Soooooo, anyway..... maybe...
enjoy your opportunity to shape the lives of our young and bursting with potential future citizens. Enjoy the time that you have with your class this year, knowing that in the blink of an eyelash, they will be the parents of future classes. Today, you are one of the most important and influential people in their lives.

Even tho - at times they may seem silly, enjoy the fact that you get to witness and guide them through such things as an athletic defeat, a break up that was "destined to last forever", the best friend turned nemisis.... You are very lucky that you actually get an accurate look into their daily lives that at times, even their parents don't. And, you can actually help them, prepare them and educate them. There is no more a noble profession.

While I envy you, I also admire your dedication to public service and commitment to educating the future citizens of our nation.

8. Thank you for the lovely words....
It is easy to forget those aspects sometimes. In fact I already have students who are the children of my former students! That is really fun at Open House!

At orientation for the new students this year, a mother came in especially to thank me for the beautiful (art) work her daughter did in my class. I was practically in tears. Really made it worthwhile.... :D

I declare Tuesday as "Thank a Teacher Day"!!!

3. 33 weeks for us...
we started 8/14. So far, so good. I think I've established that I'm the alpha-dog so it should be smooth sailing from now on. I look at it as 33 weeks until I get enough sleep.

10. Sorry I didn't make that clear....
I have posted a lot about teaching... but of course with so many members, it would be hard to remember who-does-what. Thank you for your reply.
