'Star Trek' Goes Digital; coming soon to TV Land
The original "Star Trek" series is going back into syndication next month, but the show may not look quite the same as fans remember it.

CBS Paramount Domestic Television, which syndicates the series, is remastering the old episodes to include computer-generated effects and re-recorded music, in hopes of offering a vision of the future that doesn't look quite so dated. All 79 episodes of the show will eventually get the digital treatment, with several fan favorites undergoing the retouches first.

TV Land is going where, well, quite a few networks have gone before, acquiring rights to the original "Star Trek" series.

The iconic sci-fi show will join TV Land's regular rotation in November, but the classic-television network will get an early start on the voyages of the starship Enterprise on Friday, Sept. 8 -- the 40th anniversary of the show's premiere on NBC.

That night, TV Land will show four episodes from the series, including "The Man Trap," the episode that began the series on Sept. 8, 1966.

1. But that's part of its' charm.
It's cheesy outdated version of the future is a big part of what makes it fun to watch.

I hope they don't totally replace the originals.

4. Assholes.
A high-def transfer on a decent telecine from the original cut negatives and remastered sound from the original elements (or as close as they can get) is all that is needed.

25. More importantly, what is Star Trek 2.0?
If it involves the original series, it can't be any good whatever it is.

12. Well, they can't possibly make that series any WORSE.
I'm a big fan of TNG and an even bigger fan of DS9, but I really could care less about the original series. The acting, directing, and script writing were abominable.

15. Sisko would kick Kirk's ass.
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 08:55 PM by Benfea
You can sum up the different captains by their approach to problem solving.

Piccard would hold endless meetings until the problem was bored to death. Kirk would sleep with alien women, have a spaz attack and let his underlings save the day (usually Spock or Scotty). In the time it takes Piccard to hold his meetings and Kirk to get busy with the local fauna, Sisko will have already waded in, kicked ass, gone home, cooked a dinner for his regular girlfriend (note that neither Piccard nor Kirk had one of those), and felt guilty about however many people and regulations he had to run over to get the job done.

17. i obscenity in the milk of thy Sisko
kirk was supposed to have a regular love interest, Yeoman Rand i believe. They kicked her off the show because they realized it would be much more interesting to have the leading man free to pursue a female whenever the script dictated. (which was often, and occasionally robots too!)

kirk > all

i like piccard too though. he was cool.
