7. It was the first group I checked out, for obvious reasons
I thought I'd find friends there. Oops! Almost made me leave DU altogether. Thank God (if I might use that term) for the progressive Christian group.

"NOOO, you stupid fairy-tale believers!"

And so on.

14. God forbid one of us goes over there one day
and tries to negotiate peace. If it's anything like GD, they will demand you take sides and fight with them or else. :scared: I refuse to take sides in that war.

12. GD is like the sour apples club. It's a good thing they are separate from
us Loungers. I mean DU is normally a bastion of liberalism and not much hate mongering normally goes on here, but one of the few times I ventured over there to GD this past week ended up leaving a horrible taste in my mouth. Outright homophobia and some borderline racism tainted posts were apparent in that one thread. I don't get that bunch over there.

GD is full of heathens anyhow. We REALLY are better than them. We have the loving spirit thing down pat over here. Over there, they still harbor grudges over flame wars that happened years ago. They say we should have the padded cells over here in the Lounge, but they are the ones that need padded cells and a nice tall barbed wire fence and a huge moat to keep their flames from burning down the place

Just don't advocate declawing, dis the raw food diet, or admit you use any of the major mass-produced lines of pet food.

Even the Pets group gets some feisty debates going on now and then, but mostly we're sweethearts! :loveya:

28. Yeah, you're sweethearts. Anyone who has pets has to be sweet!
I've actually not spent much time in that group - I didn't realize mass-produced lines of pet food were verboten, thanks for the heads up. But I'll agree with declawing being awful. Twenty five years ago I did that to my cat, out of sheer ignorance. I would never do that again, now that I know just how bad it is.

29. New Age-y or Religious groups, and 9-11 group
The lack of critical thinking in those groups (especially the 9-11 one) has more than once made me questions my place here in DU.

31. For me, definitely the Gun forum, or "Gungeon"
I have always been strongly in favor of gun control, and have supported groups like Sarah Brady's Handgun Control, and Mike Beard's Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.

For instance, I personally feel very strongly against the idea of Concealed Carry laws that allow practically anybody who wants to be able to legally carry a concealed handgun.

However I also realize that some people feel very strongly about being able to keep and bear arms, and being able to defend oneself. And a lot of people are gun enthusiasts. And from looking at the gun forum on DU I saw that I had to accept that that includes a lot of people of Democratic and liberal persuasion, and not just right wing nuts.

I have very strong feelings about the matter, but I also realize that other people of different persuasion from myself have equally strong feelings. And I recognize that I do not think I can hold my own in a discussion with somebody who feels very strongly about keeping and bearing arms, or with somebody who is a gun enthusiast.

That being the case, I think it has been better for me to completely avoid the gun forum.
