With this place, it's not morale that's the problem. It's a really old fashioned work culture. The previous IT Director when I started was this old guy who thought the correct way to manage was to shout and swear at people. Really old school, crude and rude. It's changing now, we have a new director, but the old habits die hard, and they infect the younger employees (this guy who swore at me is my age).

That reminds me of a time when I was a teenager. I was out with two friends who were arguing with one another. One was fumbling with her drink and spilled a bit on the other who said, "watch out, you got me wet". "No," came the reply, "this is wet". Suddenly she took the lid off her drink and threw the entire contents at the friend. I watched the entire thing in awe for a moment then burst out laughing.

and then quietly told him never to speak to me that way again. My project manager sits right next to me and overheard, and had a word with the guy a little bit later. The guy just apologised, so I consider that the end of the matter.

reason for people to swear in the workplace, to loose control like that. I'm glad your colleague had a "talkin' to". I really don't know how I would have reacted. Hope you can put it behind you, and just chalk it up to your colleagues stupidity.
