1. You live in Texas. You know summer doesn't end until October here!
:P

The hottest day on record in Austin was in September 2000.

4. It has been dry in central Texas, not here in Houston.
I just cut some really tall grass for a neighbor.

Have ya'll had no rain or just a little, I will try to send the next rain we get your way.

5. A little bit in the last week. Before that...wow...can't remember.
Lawn still mostly dead except where I've put some water out. :(

6. We had enough rain, I wonder why ya'll didn't.
Let's hope we have a wet winter.

How low is the dam at Austin, I bet it really low.

7. Gack!
Winter will start in 2 weeks here!

I hope not, though it did snow a few years ago in September (and May, so we had a whole 3 months without it...):scared:

8. Sounds nice coming off of 105 degree days.
I understand, long hard winters are just as bad as long hard summers.

9. I'm only half joking
I can imagine the cold would be welcome, though - 105 sounds ridiculous. (it was 95 for quite a while here, and that's plenty hot, thank you)

Our winters have been fairly mild the past few years - we are feeling global warming up here, that's for sure. It affects the entire ecosystem up here, which has evolved for very cold winters.

I came here 16 years ago, and not only was the temperature colder, in general (stepped off the airplane at -35 and though, what the fuck am I doing here?), but for longer periods of time. That week, there was also a 2 week spell where the winter didn't get above -20.

Last winter, it got to -20 for a couple of days. Many - far too many - were above 0. (celsius, remember...)

The lack of snow is a huge concern for farmers - it keeps the fields moist. We had a huge drought a few years back, and still trying to recover.

There are also problems in northern communities, primarily aboriginal, as they rely on the frigid weather for transportation. This happened just under a year ago: http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/12/28/alberta-road-051228.html

To think entire communities farther north up in the territories are built on permafrost...and as it melts... :-(

10. I have never been in -35 but I was in Washington DC for the big
protest in the winter of 2002, that was plenty cold for me. The high temp was 20 during the day, I don't know what it was at night. I remember the walk just a few blocks to the IHOP, I had on long underwear and 2 layers over that, still cold.

The wind was blowing, I was wearing my big coat and sweat jacket with hood and wool hat, the wind just cut right thru it.

That poor guy with a rental car he can't get back because of the road.

We haven't seen anything yet, global warming is just getting started.

25. Gack has become a favorite expression of mine.
I use it in place of other words in front of the kids.

14. I like it too because...
it always feels like there's something mystical in the air during the month.

I can't quite put my finger on what that mystical thing is, though.

12. No matter how brutal the Texas summers are, I always feel
a little sad to see them go. Mainly, because Autumn in N. Texas sometimes only lasts a week! Actually, no, make that a day!! Remember the year it was 100F in Oct., and then on Halloween we had freezing temps.?

Still, as brief as Fall is, it will be wonderful to have relief from the heat!!! :bounce: :toast: :woohoo:

15. It is the opposite here in southern part of Texas.
We seem to have long fall, short winter and too early spring.

I am more then looking forward to the first real cold front, about 40 degrees will do.

17. I live in the wrong part of Texas, I need cold weather.
Ya'll will get cold weather a lot sooner then we will down here.

I don't even use a heater down here, I enjoy what cold weather we get.

That damn barbwire fence just south of Dallas really stops that cold air from getting down here.:P

18. Good riddance, summer, I say.
It was enlightening, but for the most part, it was almost too stressful for me. Especially that part where the best cat I have ever had disappeared. Which sucked. BRING ON THE FALL.
