Only one team in baseball has lost fewer than 50 games
That would be the team with the best record in baseball, a .626 percentage just edging out Detroit's second best record at .624. What team:

2. Checking in as a MAJOR Mets fan!
And the magic number should be around, 16 or 17, right?

3. You must be talking about the same team that
gets to play Washington, Florida, and Atlanta several games a year.

Weak schedule, much?

The only division softer than the NL East is the NL Central

9. wrong color Sox, LOL
Chicagoan, White Sox fan since the early nineties when my family moved there from KC.

I appreciate the Red Sox when they are playing the Yankees or if they can keep them out of the Playoffs by some miracle. But that's not saying much, I love any team that plays the Yankees, even the Indians or Tigers or Twins.

6. You're kidding, right?
Atlanta has won how many NLE banners? And Florida has never made it to the World Series over the last ten years, right?
Christ, might as well blame Cleveland and Kansas City for how well the Mets are doing this year.

8. Atlanta is a shadow of the team they once were, and
the Marlins were kind of a fluke when they won recently.

Teams can change dramaticaly from year to year.

And, consider the AL central, which I suppose is what you were alluding to in your example.

Detriot, Minnesota, and Chicago are all very powerful teams that regularly beat up on each other.

And despite Cleveland having to play those three much of its season, its still managed to post just 4 fewer wins than the second best team in the NL east.

Moreover, the thrid best team in the AL Central, Minnesota, has won eight more nine more games than the second best NL East team, Philly.

As for Kansas City, well, that's just weak. And I say that as a Royals fan. They suck, the poor bastards, their owner won't spend money like he should. And any talent they can farm gets sold off or gets a better offer that KC ownership won't match.

10. You stated it the best.
"Teams can change dramaticaly from year to year."

And Willie Randolph has done an amazing job over the last few years brining in younger talent and cutting the bloated salaries that kept our boys out of the loop.

The Braves are always the ones that pull away after the All-Star Break and it's been a frustrating phenom to watch year after year. But for the first time, they still have most of the same "talent" which has gone nowhere. Can't blame the Mets for that. Can't blame the Mets, in fact, for how all the other teams in NLE have been mismanaged over the last few years. Face it, the Mets have assembled a great team this year and I can't wait to watch them in the Playoffs. Who knows what will happen. I'm not predicting a World Series Victory. I'm just loving, like the OP, how well our team in doing after years of being disappointed. Why piss on our joy? Is your team not doing so well?

11. Not blaming them for anything. Just saying, you might get suprised
in the postseason.

Sometimes the team with the best record doesn't realize how soft its schedule was until it is too late.

And, off the record, I'm thrilled with one of my teams (CWS) and, lets just say, not at all suprised by the other (KC)

12. I realize that. I'm not an idiot.
I just wouldn't go around saying that a team had an "easy schedule". Did you come to that conclusion at the beginning of the season, or when you looked at how the Mets have obliterated the NLE?

13. Obliteration is sweeping the WS and losing only one postseason game
Maybe if most of the division wasn't under 500, with the Phillies just barely above the 500 mark, it could be argued that they obliterated their division.

Truly good teams are ones that win their division while facing division rivals that all post well over 500.

Consider, for example, the AL west a few years ago. Powerful teams, very powerful teams, and Texas.

The shitty record posted by the other NL East teams isn't meerly a reflection of the Mets' dominance.

I don't want to discredit their manager.

Just remember:

They played in a soft division, they are a large market team, and the postseason hasn't even started yet.

14. It's a good point
Besides, the Mets have done significant damage against the NL West as well. Might as well say the entire NL is weak, since the Mets currently have at least a 12 game lead on EVERY TEAM in the National League. Now, they haven't done that great in interleague, and there's no question that the AL is a stronger division (the crazy AL Central being the key culprit, especially after the comical collapse of the Boston Red Sox in the East), but that was still early in the season. The Mets have even further solidified as a team after the All Star break. Look at how great Philly and Florida have been playing, and yet they've been able to make no progress in August, and even lost ground, which is remarkable. It may be that Atlanta looks like shit only because the Mets have been spanking them.
