Tommy James &The Shondells
My local "oldies station" just played Crimson and Clover. Wow. They followed it up with "Draggin the Line". Such memories.

Look over yonder what do you see
The sun is a-risin' most definitely
A new day is comin' people are changin'
Ain't it beautiful crystal blue persuasion

Better get ready gonna see the light
Love, love is the answer and that's all right
So don't you give up now so easy to find
Just look to your soul and open your mind

Crystal blue persuasion, mm-hmm
It's a new vibration
Crystal blue persuasion, crystal
Blue persuasion

Maybe tomorrow when He looks down
Every green field and every town
All of his children every nation
There'll be peace and good brotherhood

Crystal blue persuasion

14. Anybody besides me think Adam Sandler got the tune for
"The Chanukka Song" from the coda to "Crimson And Clover"

Try it!

"Crimson and clover, over and over
Put on your yarmulka, it's time for Chanukka."

See? :D

10. I never get sick of "Crimson and Clover"
although every time I hear it on the local oldies station I always hope they're going to play the 5-1/2 minute album version, and they never do. That version has some of the best stuff! But yeah, I think Tommy James and the Shondells are a very underrated band; while I could live without hearing "Mony Mony" ever again, their shimmery psych-pop stuff like "C&C", "Crystal Blue Persuasion", "Sweet Cherry Wine", "Ball of Fire", "Sugar on Sunday", "She", etc. are just awesome.

11. Love Tommy James. Bought a lot of their music when I was young.
Have all of their hits downloaded from Limewire. Saw them in an oldies concert in K.C. almost ten years ago with the Monkees, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, the Mamas & Papa's,(with Spanky McFarland & Scott McKenzie filling in for Mama Cass & John Phillips), and the Grassroots. It was a really great show. Tommy James still had a great voice!

12. The drummer was the chef at a place I used to work (really!)
When I worked at a Cancer treatment center in the nineties, we had a lunchroom and a chef who cooked meals Mon-Thurs (we were left to fend for ourselves on Fri.'s). The chef turned out to be none other than Vin Pet..Pietr...Something.

Significance to this thread you ask? He was the drummer for TJ & the S's. He told me some really, REALLY good stories and anecdotes about his TJ tourng days.

He actually ran a Catering Company on the side and used his chef job for the bueno health insurance package we had. I've never checked this out or tried to verify it on my own and took the guy at his word. I'd be let down if it turns out to be a pack of crap.

13. "Sweet Cherry Wine"--an antiwar message there.
SWEET CHERRY WINE

Come on, everyone
We got to get together now

Oh yeah, love's the only thing
That matters anyhow
And the beauty of life can only
Survive if we love one another

Oh yeah, yesterday, my friends
Were marching out to war
Oh yeah,
Listen now, we ain’t marchin’ anymore
No, we ain't gonna fight
Only God has the right to decide
Who's to live and die

He gave us sweet
Cherry wine, so very fine
We'll drink it right down
Pass it all around
So stimulating, so intoxicating
Sweet cherry wine

And everybody's gonna feel so fine
Drinking sweet cherry wine
Yes, they will....

15. "Crimson and Clover" was the theme of my Junior prom in
high school :-). Also, Tommy James and the Shondells were from Pittsburgh and I saw them in concert several times.

16. My Fav
got all the local radio stations in an uproar. Loved seeing all the hissyfits!

"Children, behave!"
That's what they say when we're together
"And watch how you play!"
They don't understand
And so we're running just as fast as we can
Holding onto one another's hand
Trying to get away into the night
And then you put your arms around me and we tumble to the ground

And then you say, "I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sound."

Look at the way
We've gotta hide what we're doing
Cause what would they say
If they ever knew?
And so we're running just as fast as we can
Holding onto one another's hand
Trying to get away into the night
And then you put your arms around me and we tumble to the ground

And then you say, "I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sound."

"I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sound."

"I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone around
I think we're alone now"

And the uproar happened all over again when it was Weird Al'd

Isn't it strange
Feels like I'm lookin' in the mirror
What would people say
If only they knew that I was

Part of some geneticist's plan (plan-plan-plan)
Born to be a carbon copy man (man-man-man)
There in a petri dish late one night
They took a donor's body cell and fertilized a human egg and so I say

I think I'm a clone now
There's always two of me just a-hangin' around
I think I'm a clone now
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down

Look at the way
We go out walking close together
I guess you could say
I'm really beside myself

I still remember how it began (gan-gan-gan)
They produced a carbon copy man (man-man-man)
Born in a science lab late one night
Without a mother or a father, just a test tube and a womb with a view

I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
There's always two of me just a-hangin' around
I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down

I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
And I can stay at home while I'm out of town
I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
'Cause every pair of genes is a hand-me-down

Signing autographs for my fans
Come and meet the carbon copy man
Livin' in stereo, it's all right
Well I can be my own best friend and I can send myself for pizza so I say

I think I'm a clone now
Another one of me's always hangin' around
I think I'm a clone now
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down

I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
I've been on Oprah Winfrey - I'm world renowned
I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
And every pair of genes is a hand-me-down

I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
That's my genetic twin always hangin' around
I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down

I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)

17. One of my favorites by them

I am a tangerine

Hello banana, I am a tangerine.
Is it a dream? Oh, no! I don't think so, but
My head is spinning, I am a carousel.
Don't-cha hear the bells ringin' in my ear?
And I haven't any troubles,
'Cause the friendly, friendly bubbles wash them away.

I am so mellow, I am a jello man.
Yes I am and nothing touches me.
Oh, no, I think it's over
For the fire's gettin' lower, I'm fallin' down.

Hello banana, I am a tangerine.
