More good vibes needed...

I just got a call from my mom. Her sister has taken a turn for the worse...she has chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and I'm guessing she's going to need another transfusion. She's 79.
I'm hoping she'll pull through this and hang in there for a while longer. She wants very much to visit Hawaii again.

the transfusions just get more and more often :-(

My great uncle had this disease too, and passed away from it about 5 years ago. Three days before he died, he was volunteering at the local hospital. He was such an amazing man...

19. My dad was up to 2-4 units twice a week

They got closer and closer together and did less and less good. When the doctor ordered 4 units a few days after the 2 units..we knew it was time to let it go. At least he was able to feel better after a transfusion for quite some time when he got them.


Perhaps she needs them more often? That's important so she'll keep enough red blood cells in her system.


Regardless, hopefully another transfusion will get her feeling better again. Many patients can go for years with them.

I think she wants to space them out as much as possible; but if more frequent intervals keeps her from suffering, I hope she'll give them a go.

Sounds like she's got some years left if she can tolerate the slow increase in how many transfusions she'll need.
