Went out for dinner with a girlfriend tonight.
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 08:30 PM by crim son
An older friend of her, a nice man, stopped by our table to tell of his recent engagement. He was so happy! He asked me a bit about myself and we spoke for a while. Long story short, at the end of the conversation he told me "You look like you need a hug" and he gave me a very warm, substantial one. It was bizarre and so incredibly comforting - to think that a stranger could be intuitive and kind and unafraid to act on his/her feelings without knowing how I'd respond. It made me happy. People can be wonderful, can't they?

On edit: as usual lately, posting nonsense and then going to bed. No need to respond. Good night everybody. -Lisa

2. Yes...
But that would have creeped me out, good intentions or not. If I haven't known you for longer than 10 minutes, you are not going to invade my bubble.

3. I think you would have had to meet him.
He was filled with happiness because of his upcoming wedding, and he shared a bit of it. It felt completely natural. I know, it sounds strange, but it did! Okay, going to bed now. G'night!

5. I'm glad that you had such a nice experience, crim son.
It's nice when people are spontaneous in reference to showing affection. It doesn't often happen in our society.

21. And I am.......having an excellent day!
For me, having such a time is largely what I make up my mind to feel...

Sometimes I am not in charge of my feelings, and that is not right.

9. It's great when someone is perceptive enough to recognize that
He wasn't so consumed with his own happiness that he didn't recognize another's needs. Sounds like a great guy.

16. it's too bad that more people cannot be happy
and share that happiness with friends and strangers. Instead so many are unhappy and/or angry and share that unhappiness with everyone they meet. Me too, probably, since I am a grumpy old man with no SO or family and very few friends and a low end job, but I seem to find people with better jobs who have nothing better to do when they are with their friends than hassle me. Not just youth either, because older co-workers are just as bad. I have two of them who are pretty much angry all the time.

18. You are totally right.
I've never understood people who hate their lives, their jobs or whatever and therefore believe it is somehow necessary and helpful to make everybody around them feel like crap too. If you're literally stuck with a terrible job, then wouldn't it be better to try to make the best of it by being cheerful and helpful rather than negative and hateful? The latter behavior won't get you a promotion and the former enables you to keep your dignity while doing something you'd rather not.

11. I'm actually doing superbly!
My last meltdown is going to be my last meltdown, period. Last night I ended up comforting my best friend who has beein going through the same thing as I have... except she's two years into it and still in turmoil. Despite my sadness lately I have no intention of feeling powerless, as she does, eighteen months from now. It made me think about how much strength I can muster when I have to, and the degree to which it's in my own control. IOW, I'm feeling very positive. A friend from out of town - actually a guy I dated a couple of times this summer and we're now just friends - is coming in from Mass. on Friday, so we'll go out and have fun. He knows everybody in town and I always meet interesting people when we're out.

And you, my good man. How are you doing today?

13. I'm holding off the bad pain that comes with bad weather.
And I'm doing it pretty successfully. Let's hear it for being too stuborn to stop. :)

I leave tomorrow to go visit friends for 5 days. Yeah! :7
That makes every day a bit better. I'm looking forward to this.

Normally, when the weather is bad for this many days in a row I'm curled up in agony. I'm not sure exactly why I'm doing so well, but I'm determined to be happy and keep going.

14. You can't let pain interfere with your plans,
so keep the positive attitude. We had shit weather here for several days but last evening it cleared up and today it's mostly sunny and warm. I get arthritis in the fall with rain and cold, so I know about weather affecting pain.

Glad you're hanging in there. Have a wonderful time with your friends!!
