More Butterflies from Costa Rica (photos)
here are some butterflies i photographed in the rainforest at guayabo national monument this last weekend:

this one wasn't much bigger than a nickel:
http://i55.photobucket.com.nyud.net:8090/albums/g138/GatoMoteado/butterfly_1506.jpg

this was a female that had just emerged from her chrysalis (you can see her clinging to it) and the male didn't give her any time to get comfortable in her new stage as a butterfly before swooping in and getting busy:

this is one of the many species of clearwing butterflies we have in the country. i posted some photos of this one in a separate thread but it's such a remarkable creature i thought it deserved being included here:

in case you missed them the first time, to see some more shots of the clearwing butterfly, click here:

i'm heading to braulio carrillo national park this weekend and i always see exciting wildlife there, so i hope to have some decent photos for you all when i get back!

...not like that! Even their bodies are yellow. They look like they've been dipped in yellow paint! Thanks for showing us these!! I love butterflies! :)

14. peggy, mi amor!
i wish i took photos for a living. it was always a dream of mine. i was a much better photographer with a mostly manual nikon FE SLR. though the new digital cameras have more bells and whistles i seem to have lost the ability to control exposures. part of it is the fact that i just don't want to read the user's guide from front to back.....but it seems like there's no way to learn the camera without doing that.

i'm hopefully headed to golfito later this year to a place where i can get very close to wild monkeys in an environment where i can comfortably photograph them. that should be fun.

i also want to build a bird blind on one or both of my rainforest properties so i can get closeup shots of birds without them even knowing i'm there.

and my dream is to be able to photograph wild jaguars in the costa rican rainforest. the trick is finding them.

20. Hola, Gato! These are incredible!!
My goodness, I'm with Peggy, you should be
a professional photographer.
Maybe work for 'National Geographic'?
You are that good!

I'm ready to move to Costa Rica. The job situation
for prospective teachers( especially one who is 55)
in California is not good. There are too many budget
cuts and too many teachers who are out of work, right now.

I've been substituting ( English,ESL) for six years, now.

Do they need English teachers in Costa Rica?
I've heard they do.

Anyway, thanks for sharing these outstanding photo,Gato.

:hi:
