Do you respond to all the posts in a thread, you originate, or not?

Just curious.

3. Well, you kind of get a feel for who does and who doesn't
And, for some people who *always* reply to my posts I feel obligated to respond to their posts...I don't know...I was being more silly than anything. It's really quiet at work today, and I am a little bored (shhh...I didn't say that too loudly, did I?).

I try to respond to all the posts but sometimes I get tired or have to go do something else.
I'm not ignoring anyone.
Hope they know that!

22. I believe you do know. It's a first for me though
and maybe it's because I'm older but not necessarily wiser. It took me ten years to stop thinking of my first love without a twinge of pain & sometimes more. But I was able to handle it back then because I jumped into relationships to dull the pain. I can't do that this time.

But yes, I slept and feel better. You are very dear to be so kind to me!

29. I always respond to all posts in my threads, my dear KC2!
I feel as though I started the thread to talk to people...

Therefore, I respond when folks talk to me......

It's common courtesy, for me, anyhow!

I don't always respond to someone's second response.......that depends!

I don't mind kicking my own threads! :P

Sometimes, I won't post in someone's thread if I know that the poster never responds.....

That may seem petty, but it bothers me.

Oh well........

36. No. And the funny thing is the lounge is the only place where this seems
to be an issue. I don't think anyone in GD, editorials or LBN would even necessarily think of doing it. One rarely sees a thread in any of those forums where the OP responds to all posts and thank goodness for that.

As far as the lounge is concerned, you also can't win for losing. If you don't respond to every post, some will feel snubbed. If you do respond to every post you are a shameless self-kicker.

So I do what works best for me.

I respond when I feel like it and I don't when I don't.

As for you, please don't feel obligated to respond to this post.

Do as you please and enjoy yourself.

You are right, somewhat, about saying, "can't win for losing." On the other hand, it seems to be a delicate balance.

40. I have wondered about this quite a bit
I posted in GD once and got more responses than I had anticipated.

I wanted to make more replies back than I did but it was overwhelming and took me so long that the thread was lost before I could.

I didn't know the proper etiquette for responding so late. I felt really stupid and although I didn't even think about kicking my own thread while it was in the active state it did cross my mind that after 2 days in GD any replies would kick it and how that would look really dumb.

I even thought about sending pms but then thought the people I was replying to wouldn't remember who the hell I was without the thread so...I felt stupid some more.

Maybe I worry too much? But when people are so nice I just want them to know how much I appreciate it.

it would be nice if you had the option to sort the thread by post date and time so that you could easily see whst the latest post was.

57. I think it would be nice
if we had a footnote option or something like a closing memo. Where we could put final thoughts on a subject when the thread gets too long. Something that would show up as a reply to everyone who posted to the thread. Not to take the place of individual replies but to acknowledge everyone when it would otherwise be impossible.:)

Did that make any sense at all?

you mean bulk mail replies as pms. Yeah, but then everyone gets the identical message. At first they think it is a heartfelt gesture. Then they start PMing each other to see who else got the same deep message. Next thing you know heartfelt becomes shallow and lazy...people start talkin' about you behind your back...

77. OMG!
I'm almost at 3000 and I've only been here 4 months! I'm so embarrassed.

80. Don't be.
We won't talk about how many posts I made in my first year. :o :scared:

62. I'm not sure what you mean by the phrase "you orginate" and how it relates
to the poll.

It's rather a non-sequitor - asking if we respond too all posts in a thread. Then you ask "you originate". I don't get it. And then the final "or not", I can get that, except, of course, for how it it is to be associated to the question "you originate", which I am unable to parse into an answer.

63. Just answer no.
Many times I've gone to bed in tears because you didn't respond to my post.

79. Other:
2, 4 and 5.

Replying to every post artificially inflates a thread. But it's more because I often just can't think of a reply for every post.

82. Hi Oeditpus Rex. I've been wanting to ask you all night....
...what is a grand slam? I've been getting so into baseball, that I'm taking hubby to a game! It's weird, but I feel like I'm part of history in the making...and I want to see another no-hitter now!

83. Home run with the bases loaded
Four runs on one swing. Cubs lost last night when somebody with St. Louis hit one in the ninth inning.

Glad you're getting into the game. Who ya gonna go see? :applause:

I wouldn't bet on a third no-hitter, though. That'd be seriously pushing the odds. :7

84. I'm not sure...but it's Sept. 17th.... Rangers vs. LAA ?
Hubby could get free tickets from work, so I said, "Let's do it!" Wish me luck!

Who is LAA?

85. Los Angeles Angels
Full, ridiculous name: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. :eyes:

They're a good ball club. You should see a good game.

Day game too, I see. Mahvelous. Baseball was meant to be played in the afternoon.

the day. I agree, it's better during the day. Thanks! :hi:

88. OK...I have a huge confession to make...
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 12:59 AM by KC2
I left in the 3rd inning. I know...I was stupid...so, technically I didn't see the whole game. And, all I remember was that it was the first year The Ballpark at Arlington opened (which is now called something else) and it was the year *after* Nolan Ryan retired. I'm telling you...I would have paid more attention if I knew the historical ramifications!!! That's why I have to see another one...it's like 1 1/2 potato chips... (that sounded silly, didn't it?). I'll ask my older sister, later this week when I talk to her...she was the one who gave me the free tickets-- hopefully she remembers!

Edit: I found it! This was the game: July 28, 1994: Kenny Rogers becomes the first Ranger pitcher to ever throw a perfect game, blanking the Angels, 4-0, at The Ballpark in Arlington.

Oh, oh...it was the Angels, too. It could happen again!

89. You beat me to it
I was thinking Kevin Brown, but his was later, when he was with Florida.

Perfect game. Cripes. There's only been a dozen or so of those in baseball history.

I feel it's the right thing to do to acknowledge everyone who takes the time to post in my threads. I don't like to leave people out if I can help it. :)

However, I usually won't kick my own thread if it's been more than a day. Unless there is something important I want to say (which doesn't happen often. :P ).

97. I usually do.
It's not to keep my threads kicked---it's because I have usually asked a question or started a discussion, and I'm genuinely interested in the responses. :) I know there have been times when I've gotten busy or a thread has gotten really long when I haven't responded, and for that, I apologize. :hi:
