Do you post in a thread before reading all the other posts?
I do. I feel like, that way, I am not influenced by what others say. Sometimes, though, I end up repeating something already said, which is rather embarrassing.

What do you do?

I read everything in a thread before I post. I don't like to be repetitive.

13. Oh I know
It's very discouraging to discover that you are not as unique or original as you thought. But then again, we are a community of like minded people, so it doesn't bother me THAT much. I actually cherish the fact that I've found so many people who think along the same lines as me. It's very comforting. That's why I love DU!

of interaction with people who think like me discouraging. What I mean is, if someone has a similar thought to mine, I'd like him/her to post it under my post, then I can reply and others can join in and then you have a discussion vs. a lot of people trying to be the most clever.

That said, there are some topics that I just want to respond to immediately. But in particularly long threads, I always try to join in a subthread where what I want to say fits in.

18. I Have Always Said That.......
A chat utility here at DU would be a good idea. It would give us a chance to exchange ideas in real time rather than having to check the boards continually looking for responses.

11. I generally read the whole thread, my dear KC2!
I often get some insights that I find useful that way....

And, it keeps me from being too repetitive!

IF the thread's too long, then I won't read the whole thing, though...

12. I do the same thing.
I usually just read the OP, post, and then go back and read what others have said. Starting with people I know and love, followed by people I know and hate (a formal rule as I can't think of anyone I hate), then people who have offered interesing/thoughtful/funny observations in the past, strangers.

The last is really the most interesting category as you never know what you might find.

I don't feel embarrassed if someone said exactly what I said afterward. Just proves how beautiful, wonderful, sexy, intelligent and all-round perfect they are! Which just proves that so am I :)

21. Not usually. I don't mind repeating someone else's good idea.
But often information evolves a bit along the way. I think most threads sort of 'Zen Navigate' a topic.

Edit: Note that this applies to my "first post" to a thread... also, it doesn't apply to things that would have static, concrete answers, like naming a month, or a movie, or something of that nature -- in that case, I'll look for replies that deal with November, for example, and post there

I post a lot at work so it's too much to read all the posts in a thread. I just don't have that amount of time.
