"Intervention" on A&E- does anyone else here watch it?
I know this will probably trigger some discussion over whether or not such programs are effective, but I think they're necessary when a person hits bottom and loved ones have no other choice. Anyone watch last night's episode? That was the worst one I've seen yet.

1. i watched it last night and it was really sad, i don't see her recovering
anytime soon. I hate to say it but i think she's going to end up dying in the couple of years.

2. I've never even heard of that show.
Sounds interesting though. What was the gist of last night's episode?

5. Completely delusional, too.
Some of the worst cases I've seen on that show had at least once had an inkling that what they were doing was wrong. She didn't. I hate to say it, but her family shouldn't have sent her to jail- she needed to go to a psychiatric hospital.

and get some intensive therapy.

6. The one I watched was so depressing
The person, even though she was killing herself with alcohol, was so close to getting help. But, because she wanted to smoke a cigarette, (and had a loser boyfriend) missed her connecting flight and didn't get help. I haven't had the guts to watch it since. Maybe sometime in the future, when I feel up to it, I'll watch it again. It's a pretty good show, and educational, just very sad.

8. Very painful to watch for me.
Not because of any situation that I've personally been in, but I just have a hard time seeing people in such hopeless situations paraded on TV for ratings.

9. To make a case for the program,
they do handle it gently. And if it gets the word out about how destructive some drugs are (especially meth), than more power to them.

10. I watched it - I don't see any hope for that girl.
Not only did she suffer from a meth/alcohol addiction, but it seemed she had underlying psychiatric issues that needed to be dealt with too. I watched it with my 14 year old daughter and used the program as an opportunity to teach her what can happen with drug addiction; she needs to know. It's better to see it than to just hear mom talk about it, IMHO.

12. I agree...
she was the worst off person I have seen on the show -- I think because she (clearly) was dealing with serious mental illness along with her addiction.

Having watched from the start, I can start to see who is or isn't going to make it. Last night's gal had "Not a chance in hell" written all over her. :(

It is fascinating seeing the range of people on the show -- I am particularly struck by those whose bottom will, sadly, only be death or a lifetime of addiction. There was that homeless young man from CA who has a raging alchoholic and who went into treatment only to get his dog back from his family -- not five minutes after getting out he was at a liquor store slammin' back a beer. He was perfectly content with his life as a drunk who lived on the streets.

So very scary and so very sad.
