My heart is hurting. Kentucky Plane Crash.
49 people lost their lives today, but "God only knows" how many people lost "something" today. For all of those 49 people were either parents, siblings, children, grandparents, grandchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws, not to mention friends, coworkers and acquaintances.

In some ways, the 49 people that lost their lives on that plane are the lucky ones. It's the ones they left behind that have to "deal with" this.

This is a tragedy. I knew none of them, but for some reason, my heart hurts anyway.

2. You're not alone
Today is my birthday, and I was very saddened to start my day by hearing this news. I can't imagine how the families and friends must feel.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

7. Happy Birthday!!!
Not a great way to start the day, but perhaps things like today could put things in perspective. I don't know. I'm still trying to make sense of things today, but it seems to me as if it is okay to celebrate a birthday.

In fact, it seems fitting in a strange sort of way.

Happy Birthday!!!

4. There's a lot of sorrow and pain in this world.
That's just one reason why we all really do need one another. :grouphug:

5. Sometimes it just hits you, doesn't it?
You hear a hundred such stories and you don't stop to think, then for some reason one of them brings it all home.

Sad, sad story.

6. My dear darmok167........
How right you are....

I used to experience this sort of thing when I was a hospital nurse, though not on this sort of scale, of course...

It is always much harder on the survivors.........the ones left behind.

8. My heart hurts, too...
Did you hear that one interview, shown on CNN, where the man said, "He took the early flight to get home to his family..."?

And, I just read this: "A former pick in the First-Year Player Draft was among 49 passengers who perished.." So young, with so much promise.

9. Two of the victims...
One was a former UK (University of Kentucky) baseball player...he had just gotten married on Saturday...they were on this flight on the way to their honeymoon.

Saturday...getting married. Sunday...dying.

That seems fair. Not.

...they said he was so happy just the night before.

Now I'm reading about how many times jets use the wrong runways. My question: Was the air traffic controller on duty asleep, or what?
