Poll question: "Promiscuous" Furtado song okay for kids?
I'm hearing this song all over the place. I don't recall there has ever been a song this hugely popular, with such concrete, literal, crystal-clear, lyrics about a "promiscuous" man and woman flirting.
This is the chorus of the song:

promiscuous girl
wherever you are
i’m all alone
and it's you that i want

promiscuous boy
you already know
that i’m all yours
what you waiting for?

promiscuous girl
you're teasing me
you know what i want
and i got what you need

promiscuous boy
let's get to the point
cause we're on a roll
are you ready?

Here is the song:

(Mommy, what's promiscuous mean?)

1. I wish the target audience was older than 21...
Or at least 18.

3. I'm old and jaded, so the lyrics don't faze me.
But, if I had kids, I think I wouldn't want them listening to it.

10. Pretty awesome
I've been making pretty good grades on all of my quizzes and all. It's SO much better than middle school-we get an HOUR for lunch...pretty sweet if you ask me, but the only downside is that it's uber hot and we can't go inside the really cold library...oh well. And the whole laptop internet filter at home thing but that's another story.

Also, it's fun seeing the middle schoolers in their uniforms. Aww....& we had our first pep rally where we could actually have fun, unlike in middle school. The principal would seriously say "BE QUIET THE CHEERLEADERS ARE TRYING TO PERFORM!!!" :wtf: it's a PEP RALLy... As you know, football is king here down south, even for a school like mine with "high academic standards" and whatnot...

So, basically it's been good. Thanks for asking. How's your high school been?

12. Pretty boring really
I know four people out of 1000. The homework sucks (we didn't really get much in MS), and we have 22 minutes for lunch (there are 250 people in the lunch room at once ), so its about 15 min standing in line, 7 eating. So yea. Glad to hear your having a prett cool time though :) :hi:

Class of 250. Unfortunately a class of 1000 inst too uncommon here. My MS friend who went to public school has over 4k people in his HS

11. I don't think that it is a good song for kids to listen to
Although there have been several other songs in the past that aren't exactly great either. I remember my four year old half sister singing similiar songs that she had heard on the radio. My mother was horrified and tried to pay attention to what came on the radio when she was in the car. She didn't really ask what the lyrics meant though until she was 6 or 7.
Personally, I think songs like that are worse for kids to listen to then a song that uses "fuck" as a swear word, which are generally banned from the radio or have it cut out.
The songs do describe complex sexual issues that most young children aren't ready to understand. I think that they are worse than tv or movies because they are catchy, short, and easy for young children to remember unlike an adult television show that they might find boring and quickly lose interest in.
I don't know what the solution is. As a principle I generally don't like censorship but I wish songs like that didn't get so much air play.

18. I agree completely! BTW, I love that song, though.
I am generally opposed to censorship. Always was, still, pretty much am.

I do like the song, but I think the lyrics are treacherous, because the word promiscuous is used as though it means the same as sexy.

17. I'm a parent.
And I've listened to this song a lot when I'm working out and it's on TV. I don't care for the lyrics of this song, but I've heard worse. I just find it overly commercial, like the word promiscuous is simply being used to sell albums. Other than thinking NF sold out over this song, the song doesn't offend me.

20. It's not even OK for adults, on account of extreme stupidity
Every once in a while there is a lyric in a song (or a line in a movie or book) that just seems so incredibly ridiculous that it skewers my brain like a runaway dentist's drill - "in the dayime with the light" is one of those lyrics...

21. yes, I often have songs sticking in my mind, unwanted.
The song you mentioned, I have no idea what it is.
Are you perhaps thinking of "blinded by the light...caught up with a deuce another somethin' in the night"?

22. I was referring to one of the lines from 'Promiscuous'
Although it looks like I got a word wrong.

If ya lookin' for a girl that’ll treat you right
If you lookin’ for her in the day time in the light

Still, thanks for giving me another godawful ear-worm to crawl off to bed with! :)

25. I was hoping you were talking about another "Promiscuous"...
...namely, the rap number by Frank Zappa.

The Surgeon General, Doctor Koop
S'posed to give you all the poop
But when he's with P.M.R.C.
The poop he's scoopin'
Amazes me

C-Span showed him, all dressed up
In his phoney Doctor God get-up
He looked in the camera and fixed his specs
'N gave a fascinating lecture
'Bout anal sex
ANAL SEX
ANAL SEX
ANAL SEX
ANAL SEX

He says it is not good for us
We just can't be promiscuous
He's just a doctor - he should know
It's the work of the Devil, so
Girls, don't blow!
DON'T BLOW
DON'T BLOW

Don't blow Jimmy, don't blow Bobby
Get yourself another hobby
(If Jesus practiced medicine
I'm sure he'd do it
Just like him)

Is Doctor Koop a man to trust?
It seems at least that Reagan must
(And Ron's a trusting sort of guy -
He trusts Ed Meese
I wonder why?)
I WONDER WHY
WONDER WHY

The A.M.A. has just got caught
For doin' stuff they shouldn't ought
All they do is lie and lie
Where's Doctor Koop?
He's standin' by

Surgeon General? What's the deal?
Is your epidemic real?
Are we leaving something out?
Something we can't talk about?
A little green monkey over there
Kills a million people?
That's not fair!
Did it really go that way?
Did you ask the C.I.A.?
Would they take you serious,
Or have THEY been
Promiscuous?
Have THEY been Promiscuous?
Have THEY been Promiscuous?
Have THEY been Promiscuous?
