Question about women
How come whenever I ask a woman a question. The answer is always, "Whatever you want." Or "What do you think."
Is it some kind of woman thing where you're diagnosing my intentions based upon what answer I give?

1. Asking women questions! What the hell's wrong with you?
As if you actually wanted to know their opinion! ;-)

4. Seriously?
Cause, like honestly I don't intend to. Usually when I ask a question like that it's cause I'm completely stuck for what to do...etc...
All I want is an ANSWER.

19. Seriously...for the most part. But there's
Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 02:50 PM by China_cat
always the thing that's been drummed into us from childhood. "Try to take into account your date's financial situation. When he asks what you'd like to do, try to find out what he can comfortably afford so that he won't be embarassed by having to say no".

It's hard to get past that and say "I'd like to go to Sardi's, can you afford that? No, ok Burger King works for me". And men seem to want to try to impress by NOT saying "my budget is x, what would you like to do that won't go over that?"

Next time, try having 2 or 3 things in mind and then ask which of those 3 she'd rather do. I'll bet you get the kind of answer you want.

it if is is out on DVD. My VHS copy is wearing out. I watch it about once a month in the dark. I don't know what it is about that movie, but I always get drunk and watch it in the dark and feel so serene throughout it. Chloe Webb makes a pretty good Nancy although it does feel like Courtney would have been better in some way. I like Chloe Webb a lot too. She's cool in interviews. I remember when I recorded the "talking through the movie" one off of one of the channels years ago. She was super cool. Courtney was the one in the movie who said the famous "Love Kills" line. She was so cute in there. I do wish she hadn't had her nose "fixed." I liked it better before she had it changed.

Maybe we could get together sometime and watch it. I'd enjoy having someone willing to watch it with me who actually likes it. My aunt is sick of it. She will watch, but doesn't really like to watch a movie more than once or twice. Okay, I'll admit it. I have conned her into watching it with me more than 20 times at this point in time. I can't help it though. It's a romance story with a sad ending to me. That still doesn't take away from the romance before the end though.

7. Speaking only for myself, the only time I ever answer like that is when
I know someone (i.e. my husband) has made up his mind already and is just asking me to be polite or so he can say later, "I DID ask you, after all." In most situations, that kind of answer is a deferral to your wants/needs/etc. It comes from someone who wants to do something different but doesn't think she can. Most of the time, it's so she won't piss you off and/or drive you away. I've known women who answer like that all the time and then are unhappy with the result. They only have themselves to blame.

If someone asks me a question otherwise, I answer it without evasive answers like that>

All girls I've dated (and even many who are just friends) have more often than not depended on me to figure out what we're doing, where we're going, etc. It's irritating. The few who like to boss me around I love to death. :D

15. I think it's a matter of aiming to please, and not wanting any blame
That's why after one's say has been ceded, a person will still say "fuck that idea" (not in so many words, unfortunately) if he/she isn't hip to what the decider decides.

25. Exactly.
There are several other good answers on this thread, but for *some* women its a matter of expecting men to "take charge" and make decisions. As someone who doesn't enjoy bossing others around in general its annoying when a woman I'm dating expects me to engage in bossy behavior that is essentially chauvinistic.

18. Well, I'm very old now....
...heading (like a snowball rolling down the hill to hell) towards my 52nd b'day, so if you asked me my honest opinion, you'd probably hear a lot more than you bargained for.

But even in these post-feminist days, young women have been somewhat brainwashed into keeping their ideas to themselves and deferring to men. It's like putting a chick on the spot when you ask her what she wants to do--she may really not know or care because society has taught her to put her needs second to yours. It's real easy to do, because women are wired with all these maternal instincts that allow their brains to sacrifice their own desires for those of the people who need her.

It's behaviour that takes a few decades to get over. But once we do---oh, Nelly, watch out!!!!

Edited on Sun Aug-27-06 03:19 PM by Radical Activist
that most women are taught to be passive, just as you are saying. It gets on my nerves. This is making me realize another reason why I like dating women who are politically active because they are more likely to feel personally empowered and assertive. I respect that. Although, I'm sometimes surprised that even feminist, politically empowered women are often like what you describe in this post.

38. this happened several times when I was a kid
Mom asks dad "what do you want for dinner?" He says "just make anything" and I would think the same thing. Then she would make, say stroganoff, and I would think to myself "okay, make anything but stroganoff". It sorta would not matter what she made - it would suddenly be something I did not want. Of course, I never did like stroganoff and probably would always be okay with hamburger helper, since it is 34% sugar, or was.
