Looking For A Handyman or Woman..What would you do?
If you were going to look for someone to do some odds and ends in your house how would you go about finding them and what would you look for? I have called several businesses that provide this kind of service but they are REALLY expensive. Contractor type of prices. My next door neighbor's father hired a distant friend to help with the roof and then was sued for 20,000 dollars because he hurt his back. I don't want that to happen. For me or the person working here. I used to be the home project person in the family, but now I have health issues that make that more difficult to do. My husband works long hours most of the time. So what do you suggest?

1. Insurance
Check your homeowners insurance for coverage.

Or make sure your contractor is insured and PROVE it.

Under the table workers can cause you trouble especially should they be collecting unemployment and being paid cash by you. Oh the lies to be told!

Often an in/out licensed contractor in my experience is the best bet for major projects such as a very important new roof.

good luck.

Never pay up front never no exceptions.

2. Dating website

Of course, you're married so it may not work out as well as I'd originally thought...

4. Good luck. I just went through this.
I eventually found someone via Craigslist. Though the majority were extremely flakey.

I called several of the big services and found the same thing - very expensive.

Also, ask friends, neighbors, etc.

5. Check with your neighbors and/or co-workers
Is that do-able?
