Re: Online dating services
What service is the best? I'm thinking about joining Yahoo personals. I'm looking for a liberal male in his 40's-50's.

Met a nice lady in less than a week.

2. Not my OP, but, reallly?
Sigh. The thing is, I'm in Maine. The population density is really low and available men with jobs are truly scarce. I'll check it out anyway.

3. There weren't a lot of people signed up from my area.
So I didn't hold out a lot of hope.
We've been out together once and hit it off. We're getting together again soon.

11. My cousin lives in Maine and met a guy thru an online dating site
She's now living with him. Met him on match.com; he was in Bangor. She's definitely liberal, so I'll have to assume he is too.

18. Well that's encouraging.
I know there are men in Bangor, but I don't fit the general demographic. It's okay because I'm not completely sure I ever want to see another naked man in this lifetime!

13. You should try being single in
Rapid City, SD, or almost any other part of the state. Talk about low population density and limited available men, along with the area's generally conservative nature. SIGH.

Ah, well, I didn't have much luck back home in Ohio, either, with a far higher population density in a more liberal area. I'm heading toward age 42 and have never been married, guess it's probably time to just bite the bullet and accept that it'll never happen.

17. I'm in the middle of ending a marriage of 17 years.
The best things to come from it are my three kids and the ability to withstand emotional pain and stress. I don't want to marry, but I don't want to be alone either. I feel for you

6. Thanks
Just checked it out and I plan to join. Good luck! I'm just not attracted to conservatives, and find liberal men hot, so that's a good place to start.

14. That's part of my problem,
I've never enjoyed bars and I'm not really a heavy partier, although I'm not a stick in the mud, either. Unfortunately, that seems to be where a lot of fellow singles meet.

5. Any of them that are free or have liberal policies.
Online dating is worse than a bar IMHO.

Well, better in that you can't see anybody laughing at you. :) (not 'you' personally, mind you... )

15. Bars really suck, especially
if you don't drink much and you go there with a friend and the friend is the one getting all of the male attention and you have to sit there and plaster a smile on your face and act like everything's just dandy and that you don't feel like shit. The worst is when you're with a friend and someone fakes an interest in you just to get close to your friend. Been there, done that, unfortunately.

20. I just went with a friend who guys drool over
I'm pretty much attached, and she's a young widow

Guys have always drooled over her, so I'm used to it, plus we're very different physical types and I only appeal to a narrow segment who likes very tall women, so I don't take it all that personally. She's not a beauty - normal height, thin figue, odd hair, face that looks her age (mid 40s) but as my SO says, "she just oozes sex".

but it is discouraging to go out with her to show support, and men ignore me and just fall all over her once they talk to her.

21. I know!
I've never really had much luck with men, anyway, for a variety of reasons, so it's really been hurtful when I've been in those situations. When my stepsister and I were teenagers, whenever we were together guys would fall all over her and even ask for her number right in front of me, all while totally ignoring me. I guess that prepared me for what was to come in adulthood, lol!

12. Why not check out MeetUps.com?
They have groups for singles, special hobbies, Political Groups, etc.
I even noticed that some people are starting a Meetup for Impeach Bush.
Yep, there is a Meetup group for just about everything.

16. Try OKCupid. They have great matching and it's free.
Personally hasn't worked for me but I am a weird/fugly guy. If nothing else you'll be amazed at the people you're matched with who live 600 miles from you. The tests are fun too.

They have ads on Salon, the Onion, Nerve and several other sites. It's where my liberal wife and I met.

23. e-Harmony nailed it for me.
They match people scientifically with hundreds of questions. I met the Lady of my dreams there. Its been five wonderful weeks and we both couldnt be happier.
All for $110.00 for three months.
Where else would a 50 year old smoker and stutterer with Hep C and a partial amputation to my left hand find a great Lady?
Oh, and she's a Liberal Democrat too!

24. I met a wonderful woman online
She is a model and rich. She sent me a picture and she is so beautiful it looks like the photo came from a magazine. The only problem was that she told me that her money was tied up and she wanted to visit me. So I sent her $5,000 in all and she is coming soon!

It's been 2 years, but I'm sure she just got hung up with something. I think her computer is down too because I haven't gotten an email yet. But we are in love.

Seriously, I never really did those things, but I have heard of some ok results. Mainly I have heard more negative things coming from it, but that means nothing. Good luck with your search.
