1. I guess you could drink some water with baking soda in it
but if it's really heartburn (ie, refluxing) and not just acid in your stomach, you should go get some prilosec otc or something like that--reflux can mess up your esophagus

8. Well, if it's reflux
the level of acid in your stomach is probably pretty normal (the acid is just in the wrong place--your esophagus), so the baking soda might not help tht much, though it's certainly still worth a shot.

If you can get to a drugstore, some Prilosec or Zantac would probably help--and if this problem recurs, you should go see your doctor.

13. not really, it's just that yucky acid burn at the top of my throat.
when i was pregnent many years ago i got it all the time but it went away after i had my daughter. I must have eaten something funky today but i just can't think of what it was.

20. Hmmm....perhaps nothing
There can be lots of reasons for acid reflux, and many aren't related to diet. In any case, good luck, and do go see your doctor if it persists.

2. Sorry to hear that.
My sister swears by fennel seed tea--steep some fennel seed in black decaf tea, add some honey. Strain before you drink. Avoid mint-flavored anything!

5. Drink A LOT of water
Edited on Fri Aug-25-06 09:40 PM by Mz Pip
I get bouts of acid reflux on occasion. I drink a huge glass of water and that usually dilutes it. Baking soda helps, too.

10. Liquid passes almost immediately through the stomach
so I'm betting it's the baking soda that is doing the trick there.

11. If it's rare,
water may work or it may force the acid further up your esophagus. How full are you? If very full, baking soda. If not, dilute the acid with water or some tea made from ginger. Aloe vera gel works well too but most people don't keep the potable kind on hand. I had acid reflux disease for years.

16. I hope it works!
It's a horrible feeling, isn't it? One of the symptoms of somebody suffering from GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) is "a feeling of dread". Like a heart attack. I think it's because something has gone badly wrong and the body/mind hates it! -Lisa

23. GREAT! And after the burp visit my home turf...
The Latham foundation, whom I've been a spokesperson for since 1927.

We were one of the first ecology outfits around (I guess we were doing our ecology thing for fifty years before they even invented the word!)

Our mandate is pretty simple:

To foster a deeper understanding of and sympathy with man's relations -- the animals -- who cannot speak for themselves,

To inculcate the higher principles of humaneness upon which the unity and happiness of the world depend,

To emphasize the spiritual fundamentals that lead to world friendship

To promote the child's character through an understanding of universal kinship.

27. Gingerale
A good brand with real ginger; add some honey to cut any heat. Or papaya juice; papaya enzime is good for minor acid reflux.
If you have it regularly for more than two weeks, you should get it checked out.
Good luck.
