Poll question: When you go to buy clothes, do they fit you?
I just spent a frustrating hour looking at jackets.

I tried on about 10 jackets and they were all simultaneously WAY too big and WAY too small.

1. Oddly shaped freak here.
There's a reason why I wear baggy outfits! :D

Well, two reasons, but I much rather like one reason more than the other...

2. They usually fit
Which is fortunate because I rarely try anything on in the store. I just bring it home, cross my fingers and hold my breath.

24. I hate catalogs
Clothes in a catalog never look the same when they get here. The fabrics aren't right.

Plus, there's just something about going into the store, looking at the clothes and feeling the textures. I know the catalog can Tell you about the fabric, but it's just not the same. And just because it looks good on Mary Sue Perfect doesn't mean it's gonna look good on me, I can tell better by looking at it empty.

And just because it fits, doesn't mean I like it or that it looks good on.

I do try on shoes, though.

25. I love Coldwater Creek clothes.

They have a lovely catalog but even their petite size is gigantic on my 5'1 frame. I have given up ordering anything from them.

3. hardly ever
I'm a big, tall man...a lot of the jeans are tapered, and I am not built with huge gut, chicken legs...I'm solid all the way down, and finding non-tapered jeans is a pain.

Same with shirts, its like the makers think that all fat people are just huge in the gut, and most 2x shirts I get aren't long enough to even cover me, because all the room is in the gut area...its like the clothes makeers think, most fat people are short, fat, chicken legged people...

Finding shoes that fit, on the spot...never happen, I always have to break them in...the exception work boots, but again, its hard to find them in my size, but when I do, they fit like a charm...

I am so glad that started making socks for foot sizes 13-18, I use to be only privvy to the sock sizes 6-12 and they were all tight as can be....

Every now and then, I find clothing that fits me...but more often than not, its not the case...

6. I have a similar problem
but at the other end of the size chart. I'm 6'5" and only weigh 200 lbs, so I need a Medium tall. Some exist, but not too many. I also have to order my pants. :( I hear ya on the shoes and socks though, I love my steel toed work boots!

8. I'm 5'1" but I can't wear petite pants.
I have really long legs for my height. Petite pants are dorkishly short on me. Meanwhile, regular length pants are almost always too long. It's fine with jeans, but I tend to always have to get dress pants tailored.

15. No, never. To fit my shoulders and arms, I'd have to buy
much larger in size, and it looks like I'm wearing drapes. Does nothing taper?

17. I'm frankly wondering how much a custom jacket would cost
I have a really small waist with big hips and broad shoulders, so I'm invariably swimming in a jacket around the midsection while it's too tight around my hips. Or the sleeves are too long. Or too short. Or too tight. Or the whole thing rides up and gets really bunchy around the midsection.

And don't get me started on pants. :P

19. I buy quality a little bigger, then off to the tailor
for alterations. Thankfully, some of the American designers are starting to come around (for folks like me, anyway) and making clothes for the "active male" which tend to be more suited for the x-frame males. Not suits or fine dresswear, though. Casualwear, jeans, etc only, thus far.

16. Well, I have boob issues, but other than that--yes.
Note to designers: your models may be flat-chested, but I'M NOT. Are a couple of darts really so hard? Are they?

21. I think the answer to this question..
... largely depends on just how fussy one is about the fit of their clothes.

I have an easy time with pants, and usually can get the right size the first time.

Shirts are more trouble, sometimes the fit I want is larger than a Medium but smaller than a Large, especially with the "baggy fit" of clothes that is currently popular.

So, I try stuff on first to be sure. Because I am fussy about how my clothes fit. :)

23. Oh, it's not about being fussy
It's about finding a damn rain jacket that fits over my hips. Even XL is usually too small, even though I have a fairly small waist. :banghead:
