Two employment questions
Edited on Fri Aug-25-06 06:04 PM by lizziegrace
one, if the add says resumes must be received no later than August 28th, does that mean they'll accept resumes that come in on the 28th?

Also, I've got to get a cover letter done and the accountant in me hates to write letters. I may be asking for input if any of you would like to critique the letter. It's for the larges arts granting organization in Columbus. It would be a terrific job, combining what I can do (accounting) with what I love. Music and art. Keep your fingers crossed. This is another highly political non-profit.

on edit - changed to "no later than August 28th" per the advertisement

I have no idea about your questions......

Although I would be happy to critique your cover letter.......once you get it written!

Consider my fingers crossed!

Best of luck, sweetie!

2. I would think that August 28, inclusive,
would be a fair assumption. Does your application nhave to be mailed, or can it be electronically submitted via e-mail? if the latter, making the CV a PDf file might be a good idea.

I, too, would be happy to critique your cover letter if you want me to. What's appropriate for or convention within one field may not be for another (my cover letters have been in the service of finding scientific jobs and funding), but a few diverse viewpoints can't hurt.

Good luck!

3. If you're waiting to get it in until the 28th...
Chances are it'll already be too late. Email resumes the same day you see the ad. ESPECIALLY in politics.

accept resumes. Since most people send their resumes out immediately following an ad placement, it is better to wait until a few days after. By this time the prospective employer has already waded through the tons of resumes so by the time yours arrives it is only competing for attention with very few others. This of course applies to paper, mailed in resumes. If the resume is sent via e-mail then anytime during the window is fine but you need to make sure the resume is scan-able and that it includes keywords that the scanner will pick up.

To write the cover letter you should look carefully at the ad and what it is asking for and tailor it accordingly. I too would be happy to critique your letter.
