What not to wear
Edited on Fri Aug-25-06 04:44 PM by Kickoutthejams23
I have a problem and outside of asking Auntie Pinko I thought you folks could help me.

I look (and dress) like a fat Repuke.

Example #1

Example #2

I'm comfortable with what I wear (Obviously not as much about how I look as I have lost about 20 pounds since those pictures were taken.) and this isn't a case of trying to be a poser as much as I wish I looked less like a Repuke at progressive events. ( Some people seem suspicious like I'm an undercover fed or something.) I've noticed this problem over the last few years if they don't now me personally they cringe until I explain that I'm here to protest with them. And in one very bizarre case a well meaning woman grabbed me from the path to the free speech zone and ushered me (ticketless mind you) into a Bush event.

Any help would be appreciated (Snarky comments are always appreciated)

1. Be comfortable and let everyone else think what they want.

2. The Democratic party is about inclusion
...in all matters, including wardrobe.

3. I have the opposite problem.
I get called a commie hippie. And at the office, they always assume I'm a druggie. Don't worrry about it.

4. I suffer from the same problem, but I gave up and just wear what I
like to wear. It is kind of an interesting experience once you start really noticing the stereotyping. You can't please everyone, so just please yourself.

6. It's not what you wear
it's how you act that counts. I've known people that dressed like down home and acted like total asses and the other way around.

8. Relax
I remember well having been the only person (or at least the only one I noticed) that was wearing a three piece suit in a protest march.

10. Go with what looks good and is comfortable on you
My best friend dresses like a 1930's businessman. Looking at him, I think most people would assume he was somewhat conservative, but he'd look weird dressing any other way. People just look good in whatever they look good in--it shouldn't reflect on your politics. Besides, you can use "looking Republican" to your advantage, both for getting access to what Republicans are talking about, and to present a liberal point of view that is coming from someone who looks like them--it can break their stereotypes of what a liberal has to be, and maybe make liberal ideas more palatable to them.

11. Dress how you dress. Show the world that liberals aren't stereotypes.
If you are getting the attention of well-meaning Republicans, use that attention to educate them. "Oh, no, sorry, ma'am, I appreciate the help, but I'm with that crowd." Shake up their world, not yours.

Or if you must, just slap on a liberal looking hat. Does it every time.

12. Yes, but imagine how easy
(not to mention how much fun) it would be to infiltrate Republican events.

13. Exactly: use it to your advantage.

As long as people remain vapid and subject to such stereotyping, exploit it. It's their fault, not yours.

14. Well...
I am (or was) a commie hippy and a druggie and I run around naked most of the time!
(There's a complicated explanation that goes with that)

A person is who he is and is not the image in someone else's mind.

15. My Advice?
Don't wear printed fabrics. Stick to solid colours when buying shirts or trousers. Any colour is fine as long as it is not a print. Neutral colours are always a good idea. Earth tones. Stay away from flashy bright colours, because they will only make you look like a pimp (or a freeper). As wierd as this may sound, keep it conservative. Polo shirts and chinos finished off with deck shoes. Progressive people (I think) often dress more conservatively than right wing fucktards.

Just my 2 cents.

16. Wear what you want to wear.
"Progressives" who label you based on your clothing are obviously not as progressive as they think they are.

20. Some tattoos, earrings, and torn jeans will solve that problem.
But it's not really a problem. You could be our mole and get the inside scoop on Repub conspiracies.
