8. Oh man...

Sometime in '83 I made a new friend, and we hung out constantly. That summer she introduced me to "The Center". The Center is the Community Center (every inner city neighborhood's got one) and in the summer they just threw open the doors. No real organized activities...people would just show up, have some food, shoot hoops, swim, hang out, whatever. This particular Center had a giant PA for dances and stuff, and the director one day just fired it up in the middle of the day. From then on every day it was a non-stop stream of awesomeness. Early early hip hop stuff, Gap Band, Ohio Players, Funkadelic, etc. So so so so so much fun. B-)
