Anyone here ever been in a cult?
I mean it. Or anything cult-like?
Tell us about it. We won't judge you.

8. There's really no other explanation.
Now I'm earmarked for death for disclosing this.

This is a really vicious cult. Seriously.

10. Cult of Personality!!!!

I saw Living Colour when they opened for the Rolling STones back in 1989. I actually liked their show better than the STones

13. Why yes I have
In fact I am the leader in one. It works like this, everyone is in my cult (because I say so) and if they want out they need to send me the request in writing and it must be notarized.

So just a head's up. Anyone on here that says they were never in a cult is not telling the truth. They (and you) are all in mine.

14. I had a friend who was big into that Landmark thing
Some people claim that's a cult.

I don't know too much about it -- except that my friend tried to get several of us to come to one of their "sessions" and got very...unusual...when he was talking about it.

There are lots of us! We should just cut the crap and take over the world, or at least, take over the refereeing.

21. I nearly founded one...
I was getting bored in a physics lesson probably aged 15, and then I realised that given the level of control which cult-leaders have it could be a very good career move - I mean if you teach your flock that they all have to work hard, and give say 20% of their income to support the vital mission (i.e., me) then with the right recruits it's a definite winner...I hadn't even heard of "Rev'd" Moon then either.

The fatal flaw with the proposition is that I'm a Christian and some apostasy would have been essential to the entire movement...bit of a pity really. :eyes:

23. I have a long sordid history.
When I was a kid my mom was a Jehovah's Witness and I hate to say this religion made some kind of sense to me at the time. I could be chosen if I followed all the rules. Fortunately they booted my mom out, literally, with big mean ugly bouncer guys telling her "Don't come back!"

Hooray! Now we can celebrate Christmas without my mom fighting with my grandparents. (The worst Christmas of my life... it was like "DeathMatch Nineteen-Sixty-???" Who will win the battle for their immortal souls? Who can break the most of Great Grandma's China with extra points for BLOOD!" Kill the Turkey! Kill the Ham! Tear into the pagan Christmas Tree! See grandmas cry!)

Soon after we were Quakers, but those were probably the least cultish days of my existence.

So I made it to college and what did I do? I joined a radical anti-nuclear cult, mostly because I met a woman with big breasts who fed me whenever I forgot to eat. I saw her naked often enough, but no touching. "Can you hand me my bra, dear?" Her religion was not generally considered a cult, but was very much the root cause of the hell we suffered. We both thought God could make it work. But if ever there was an idiot it was me -- I really should have noticed she liked women as much as I did. Some of her girlfriends were hot, and they didn't sleep lonely on the floor of her apartment like I did whenever I happened to be homeless. (No, no, I confess now, it was even worse than that... sometimes her girlfriends would be in the bedroom with her, and I'd be on the floor outside. Can we all say "Duh???" "Be a dear, hand me my bra.")

Well it didn't end well, with some poor dealer/pimp with the brains of a turnip handcuffed to a urinal thinking "WTF??? that whore's friends are insane!", and me later sliding down the street and losing skin, praying not to get run over or hit the curb.

After that I did manage to get my life together when I figured out it was something wrong with me..

Now I'm mostly Catholic. Go figure.
