38. Jerry Garcia once comforted me.
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 08:30 PM by NNadir
I was working "security" at a Grateful Dead concert in 1970. I was just a kid and I actually believed that people were supposed to have something called "tickets" to get into the concert. Someone - very wasted - threatened me with a broken bottle unless I let him pass. They moved me to the job of what I know speak of as "guarding the groupies." Shivering with fear, I was standing near a door, looking through a window into the gymnasium when someone started to talk with me and told me that "we had a rough time a little while a few days ago at Queens College."

I turned and recognized him as "the guitarist." It was Jerry Garcia. The thing was, I didn't know who he was exactly, because at the time I wasn't a Dead fan. I also got to speak briefly to "the bass player," who was Phil Lesh. I got to ask him if he knew someone who wanted to go back stage. She told me her name was "Panama Pam," and I asked Lesh if he knew her. He told me he never heard of her.

It was a memorable night, but mostly because someone threatened to mutilate me with glass. (I was armed with a flashlight.) It was also the first time in my life I got high, even though I didn't smoke a damn thing. The air was that thick with weed.

Looking back, and knowing what I know now, they were really nice guys. Garcia's calm made me stop shaking. Later on my life I started smoking pot, and for a while I thought the Dead was a great band. For a short while I was a fan, but I never got close to them again. Later I stopped smoking pot and realized they were almost never even in tune. As musicians, they were possibly the most shitty famous band of their time, but they were very, very, very nice guys personally.

9. Wow! I have a few:
Saw Edward James Olmos standing outside the Russian Tea Room in NY about ten years ago. Saw Kenny Rogers at a Morrison's Cafeteria in Nashville in the late 70s. Ate dinner with Sid Haig last year and probably will again in about a week. Talked with Danny Elfman and the rest of the Oingo Boingo guys when they were playing at a street festival in 1983. Ate lunch with George Takei at a science fiction convention in 1981. Sat on Richard Hatch's lap (Battlestar Galactica, NOT Survivor!) in 1984 to have my picture taken.

There may be more, but my memory fails me at the moment...

I've worked out with a few pro-wrestlers (Lex Lugar, Hulk Hogan, Big Show). At various concerts, I've touched Sammy Hagar and Eddie Van Halen, Mixmaster Mike. Had multiple Jack Daniels with the members of Warrant.

I've also met/hung out with a bunch of folks that are well-known in the animal advocacy circle (too many to name).

36. I have only been to L.A. a few times in my life.
I guess now that I travel there more often, my odds will increase. I ran into Winona Judd at a small, small Hotel in Casper, WY...literally...ran right into her. I met Bob Hope at the ceremonial grand opening of the Bob Hope USO in Washington D.C. I was way pregnant at the time and in my Air Force uniform I guess my belly was just to irresistible to him. He reached out and touched my tummy and asked me if this is how Uncle Sam was getting recruits.

I work for Richard Pryor's Company, so that goes without saying and through that have met many others.

I live in the same town as them.

I once met William Shatner and got his autograph at a Star Trek convention. I met George Takei (Sulu) (at a Mass Transit convention in Chattanooga).

I 've met GA Governor Sonny Perdue twice. (I told him I didn't vote Republican!)

I once sat on the front row of an outdoor Don McLean concert in the late 1970s and got his autograph. He was very nice. The concert was great!

I met Danny Ongais (race car driver) at the 1978 Sebring (FL) endurance race. I have a picture that was taken with him!

I saw Bruce Jenner and Paul Newman (he walked right past me!) at sports car races too! I met Ted Field, the heir to the Marshall Fields Dept. Store fortune at Sebring in 1978 too. He owned a Porsche team that Ongais raced with. He gave me pit box passes to watch the race from the top of the pit box! Way cool!

54. There have been quite a few, but these are the ones I remember
These were in Miami

Anthony Quinn (rode with him in a elevator)

Liza Minnelli (was sitting in a booth next to her in a restaurant)

Al Hurt (Met him in a lounge where he was appearing. He bought me a drink.)

Bob Graham (He poured my water at a Big Brothers/Big Sisters banquet. He was playing waiter.)

Troy Donahue (He came in a beauty parlor where I was getting my hair done. He picked up a girl.)

George DeWitt ('60s game show host), I dated him twice

These were when I lived in California

Natalie Wood (Saw her on a movie set)

Clint Eastwood (Saw him on a movie set)

There are more, but these are the ones that come to mind right now.

55. While I was living in California and working event security
Linda Evans- she was at a Yanni concert. She was dating him at the time.

Wesley Snipes- He was asking me if there was another way out of the theater that an AmFAR event was held. I didn't know. He asked one of my co-workers. Co-worker later tells me the man with a woman on either arm was Wesley Snipes. I still remember the electric blue jacket Wesley wore to the event.

Robert G. (Can't spell his last name, he played Benson)He appeared at an event at the LA convention center. He came up to our ticket booth to see if there were any tickets left there for him. There weren't. After he left, my co-worker says to me, "That's Benson!!"

I saw Jackie Slater at a kids event after the 1992 LA riots. My co-worker told me he was there. After I saw a big, black man wearing a red shirt, I asked same co-worker if that was Jackie Slater. He was a lineman for the LA Rams at the time.

This next one is non work related: One Saturday morning, I decided to go ice skating. I get to the rink and it was quite crowded. Then we all got to share the ice with Scott Hamilton. I was a nervous wreck. I didn't want to get in his way. He performed one of his Stars on Ice numbers for us. He was quite gracious about.

Back in PA: I went to our local rink for skating lessons. One Saturday morning, I was sitting in the locker room, trying to wake up. There was a young woman sitting on the bench across from me. A child came in and got her autograph. I saw on her jacket that she was Tiffany Scott. Tiffany and her partner were the second pair team representing the U.S. at the 2002 Olympics. I've never met her partner.

While at Skate America 2003, I was walking around the arena getting exercise and killing time between events. As I was making a lap around, who should pass me on the left hand side is Todd Eldredge. (Todd was National Champion several times.) He was walking towards me. I had to look twice to make sure it was Todd.
