What autographs do you have?
Long ago I got:

Joel McCrea (movie actor)

Julian "Cannonball" Adderley (jazz musician)

More recently, I got:

Al Gore
Hillary Clinton
Jimmy Carter

I was a wee tot when I got Joel McCrea's autograph. My family was in a cafe in Thousand Oaks, California, when my parents recognized McCrea from across the room. They urged me to go over and ask for his autograph. I didn't really know who he was but went over with a paper napkin (we had nothing else) and asked for his autograph.

I got Cannonball Adderley's autograph at Shelley's Manne Hole, a jazz club in Hollywood, California. My parents took me there as a "graduation" present when I finished junior high. Unbeknownst to me, my mom spoke to one of the waitresses and informed her that "a young man was here who is a big fan of Cannonball Adderley." Well, this waitress must have gone backstage and told Adderley, because after they finished their first set, he came over to my table and sat down! It must've been easy to know who the "young man" was since I was the only kid in the place. Anyway, he talked to me for the whole break and when he left to return to the stage for the second set, I got his autograph. Turns about Adderley began his musical career as a public-school music teacher, so it was no surprise that his love for music and kids carried over into his jazz career.

I still have his autograph; the McCrea autograph has long disappeared.

The autographs of Gore, Clinton, and Carter were obtained at book signings (I didn't see a need to post their pictures).

1. Jim Thome. Mark McGwire, Bob Feller...
...for sports, Yo-Yo Ma, Hilary Hahn, Long John Baldry, Mose Allison, the dudes from Quiet Riot for music.

Mrs. Dannofoot was a part of the L.A. punk scence in the early 80's, and I can't even keep track of all of hers - Exene, all the Go-Go's, Black Flag, etc.

I also got:

Eddie Meador, LA Rams defensive back (circa mid-1960s)--he was a guest speaker at my Little League opening day (baseball autograph)

and several more Rams football players including Deacon Dan Towler of the same era...(was able to go into their locker room after a game at the LA Coliseum and had my program signed).

I believe I still have the ball and the program...somewhere.

edited for spelling

Lou's I got when I was like 18 in CA at a club he was performing at.

As for the Avs - I was an autograph seeker for a while and hung out a lot after games. No, I did not sleep with any of them, though. Not that I wouldn't have...

15. About 12 years ago my former roommate sent a crazy fan letter
to David Duchovny in MY NAME asking for an autograph. I was completely unaware of this. One day-out of the blue- I received an autographed photo of Agent Mulder/David Duchovny and I was baffled. My roommate broke down laughing and told me that he wrote this rapturous letter about how much I loved Mulder in the red speedo and was wondering if he would he be my boyfriend. I'm sure that letter was put into the "weirdo to watch" file, but they still sent me the photo.

Channel 3 out of Madison. He visited my parochial school for some event (this was back in 1981 or so) and all I had on me for him to sign was a Bible. He was very uncomfortable about doing it, but he finally did. A weather man signed my BIBLE!

25. Neil Sheehan and a few others
Sheehan's is my favorite. It was 1993 and he was signing copies of A Bright Shining Lie. The guy in front of me started talking about Vietnam experiences. Sheehan got distracted and started to write 1963 as the date.

I also have a book David Byrne autographed that was given to me by the guy that directed Junebug.

I should tell you...

my second job during the NHL and NBA season (because production is slow)....

is signed sports memorabilia...all framed and matted...or in cases...all pretty like. I'm the regional manager for a memorabilia auction company. We set up at NHL, NBA, NFL games, and we have one MLB team. I'm also a traveling trainer to our new markets to help out the new managers.

We do silent auctions that end at half time or between the 2nd and 3rd period of NHL games.

So technically...the product is not mine. But my boss is up in Canada. He's the owner and the only person I answer to.

I have two hardcore seasonal jobs...but man...I don't ever have to sit in a cubicle again. I work half the amount of time...and make more money (still an average income though) than I ever did as a cube rat.
