Who do the Rapturists think is the Anti-Christ?
There was a thread in the lounge about who do you think is the A/C.

It occurs to me that if the Rapturists - at least the one who think it is Aug. 3 or Aug. 22 or soon - shouldn't the A/C be out by now and shouldn't they know who it is?

Maybe he didn't arise yet, but that would not work for Rapturists who think it is any day now.

2. There's been a Pope for 2000 years plus, so that makes a convenient
ever-present A/C

4. All rapturists are protestant
just as a small aside.

You're right about the Pope bit though - The Westminster Confession, Chapter XXV, article VI:

"There is no other head of the Church but the Lord Jesus Christ. Nor can the Pope of Rome, in any sense, be head thereof; but is that Antichrist, that man of sin, and son of perdition, that exalts himself, in the Church, against Christ and all that is called God."

So at least the Pope of Alexandria gets off, good old Shenouda.

7. Didn't Ian Paisley once say in the European Parliament that the Pope
was the Antichrist?

Gotta love that guy. In a fucked-up bigoted religious bastard kind of way.

10. I knew somebody once who thought the Common Market was
the A/C - I guess it is to anyone who was afraid that it would cause Europe to become a superpower and threaten the US position!

12. One can make anything out of what is in the Bible
It sounds like a person but it you take it as a metaphor it can be a concept or idea or group.

It's something everyone can have an opinion on! And never have to prove themselves right!

19. I think it was supposed to be the beast with ten horns.
Anything new on the scene can be parlayed into a world-ending threat. You know, like the presence of a pool table spelled trouble in River City, Iowa.

16. Yes.
J.P.II was visiting the Parliament, and Paisley (who was an M.E.P. then, not sure if he still is) unfurled a banner proclaiming His Holiness to be the anti-Christ - security officers did remove him at that point. :eyes:

22. Can't miss this, either:
News covering health, weather, natural disasters, declining morality and corrupt spirituality. Jesus warned us that the degradation of society would happen in the end days. Our member involvement often makes this news source faster than the mainstream sources!

That site is too much!

no kidding. The people telling me said he was working on televisions that could see into a person's home. These were anti-technology folks who thought the anti-christ would "get us" with technology.

18. It depends on what part of the Bible they are referring to
There are several different accounts of the end of time in the Bible. Daniel and Ezekiel in the OT have their story, Jesus talks near the end of Matthew, and of course, The Revelation.

Most modern Bible scholars say that 666 refers to Nero.

I, on the other hand, have interpreted 666 and Revelation 13 on this board numerous times. The 666 beast is just a front for the dragon, which is the real evil power. The 666 beast dies before the dragon takes control.

Ronald-6 letters
Wilson-6
Reagan-6

Ronnie's dead, so Bush/Cheny represent the dragon.

Either that, or it really did refer to Nero.

20. But actually Revelation 13 says there will be TWO beasts
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

So if Ronald Wilson Reagan (666) is the first beast, then who would be the second?

GEORGE 6
WALKER 6
BUSHJR 6

The neocon Republican party, under Chimpy have worshipped Reagan, the first beast, as if he were God. Chimpy (and/or his agents in "Al Qaeda") made fire come down from Heaven unto men. On 9-11. In Afghanistan. In Iraq.

I haven't heard a statue of Reagan speaking yet, so we'll have to come back to that one. As for the mark in the right hand or forehead, it's coming. They'll try a "National ID card" first, and when those are bootlegged too easily, they'll replace it with technology that you can't duplicate, because it's under your skin. Literally. And they'll use it to replace cash and debit cards while they are at it. No cash, no street crime. No cash, no drug dealers. Chips in your kids? No way a pedophile can kidnap them. The "mark of the beast" will be the marketing campaign of the century, and they'll make such a good case for it that few will turn it down.

Looks like the timing for Antichrist works out ......

23. Wouldn't Reagan have had to have brought about the national ID?
Though I guess it could be traced to him somehow.

And did he get a wound by a sword and live? If you don't take it literally, the assassination attempt by Hinckley would work, though by a gun.
