BEST.PROJECT.RUNWAY.EVER!!!! **Many Many Spoilers**
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 09:33 AM by LynneSin
This is a classic, legendary and should win a fricking EMMY Next year!!

Having Jeffery designing an outfit for Angela's mother? You couldn't ask for anything better, I almost think they so how planned it that way that ever other designer (excluding angela) was told to not pick Angela's mother and they probably had Jeffery's button velcro'd to the bottom of the bag so he would be last to pick and she was the only option.

MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD

The way he treated her mother and that dress was HORRIBLE, beyond horrible. I think he went out of his way to create a crappy dress and make her look really bad just to piss off Angela even more. He probably figured if Kayne got a by last week for his crappy dress then he could probably get a by this week for a crappy dress knowing that he would be up against Robert, Vincent or Angela, all of whom are regulars in the bottom 2.

I was sad to see Robert go just because I liked him so much but that was a pretty boring dress. I'm shocked he couldn't have found some form of Red/Black print to make for the jacket. I mean, even he called it a 'Kimono' and most kimonos traditionally have some sort of pattern to go with it.

And when Michael's mom came out in Capris and wedged heels, I figured Matcom was out there somewhere cringing.

Other things I learned yesterday:

Laura will have a brilliant career designing for tall, skinny women because once her outfits were put on a short person they looked like crap. And she's PREGNANT???!!!

I don't care how old anyone is Angela, you don't put fringe on the ass of anyone unless you happen to be designing a stripper's dress. But then again you did a stripper dress in episode #2. I thought it was a hoot that she did it on Prim & Proper Laura's mom.

Someone should force Uli to design an outfit without Patterns. She'd probably end up doing 'Roberts'.

Who would have thunk that Vincent found a career in designing for the Kohls Women's department store? Michael should have 3-peated with that great dress he made and somehow Vincent pulled it out with something I could probably go to Kohl's department store and buy. Well at least we have Vincent's career mapped out so that 401k doesn't go to waste

1. Angela's mom was a whiny bitch
I haven't seen the whole season, and am not quite sure why Jeffrey and Angela hate each other, but her mom was telling the moderator that she hated the colors before Jeffrey even made the damn dress. I think she took one look at this guy and his tattoos and probably being a conservative narrow-minded fundie from the mid-West, she just decided he was the anti-Christ. In fact, I would bet that Angela and her mom colluded to make Jeffrey look bad. OK, the dress was somewhat ugly, but I appreciated that he was at least trying to do something different than the usual plus-size sack dress, and she chose those ugly colors.

I would have kicked off Angela last night, because her dress was the farthest afield from the challenge. Her client wanted a Kate Hepburn look, and she got Annie Oakley meets black polyester. Kate Hepburn wouldn't have used that garment to dust her lampshades. It was ugly, weird looking and totally inappropriate for the client.

At least Robert gave his client exactly what she wanted. That woman said she loved the outfit, that she would wear it in real life, and while he could have found a print, I liked the bold red. How many shapes can one create for a woman who is 300 pounds and 5'3"?

Kayne has just squeaked by the last 2 episodes, his paper dress was truly horrible, but his outfit for Michael';s mom was OK, if not very innovative.

The judges seem to love Laura and Michael, but frankly I find both of their designs to be somewhat boring. They ooh and aah over the construction, which granted I cannot judge over the TV screen. But the dress Micheal won with in the recyclable challenge (gold strapless bustier with straight skirt and plastic "organza" wrap) just wasn't something I would personally ever wear. I thought Jeffrey's halter dress was gorgeous, it looked like real material and really moved well. I actually liked Vincent's artistic paper dress, although it did look a little hard to walk in. And in this round, Michael got by far the most conventionally shaped "average woman", yet all he made her was a shirt dress with a bulky tie-belt. So what if it were reversible, it's not like that;s never been done before.

Uli doesn't seem to get much attention, but she quietly makes some really nice stuff.

So, over the past 2 shows, I would have given Jeffrey first place in the paper dress round, not Michael, and I agreed with the girl they let go, but Kayne was lucky that time! In the "average woman" round, I would have given Uli first place, and would have kept Robert and kicked off Angela, and her bitchy whiny mother.

2. That's my take as well, though Jeffrey handled it like an ass
Definitely I think there was some maneuvering going on (knowing Angela--remember her attempt to sweet talk Kayne for the Miss Universe thing?). Doubtless there was some conferencing between family members either before or after and I would be very surprised if Angela didn't at least mention "Jeffrey and I hate each other." That horrible (and yet utterly basic) fringe thing Angela designed was waaaay worse than what Jeff gave her mom--who was that for, a Goth Stevie Nicks?

5. Dearest GG
I have never ever in my life watched even one single episode of any other "reality" TV show.

But, I happen to be a big fashionista, and these folks competing really are designers. OK, I think the melodrama over who to kick off each week is a bit over-the-top. But truly, most of the show is not about the interpersonal sniping, but about what each designer is going to do with the design challenge each week. And the judges happen to be qualified.

I think this show must be a cut above the typical reality TV. Besides, Heidi Klum gives all the losers a kiss as they exit the runway, so she's much nicer than the usual reality TV host.

Anyway, I need a little mindless drivel in my life from time to time! I do try to be a little discriminating about my drivel.

:loveya:

7. Project Runway is one of the best shows regardless of the Genre
I think that Bravo and Heidi Klum have put together a smart show where folks are actually using real talents other than connivving and backstabbing (which happens but in no way plays a part into the judgement of the outfits).

Ramsey, the people who brought 'Project Runway' created another show along the same format - 'Top Chef'. I hope they have a 2nd season of that because it was another well done Reality TV show where people had to use their skills in order to win. And I know you love cooking

4. Uli's good but...
...her talent is that she relies on her ability to combine prints, sometimes 2 prints that when you first see them you're like :wtf: . I did like her outfit she made last night but I'm starting to think she's like Laura and Kayne who are '1-trick' designer: They can do one style really well but when outside that element they do crap. Uli is just fortunate that Kayne's mom was willing to have prints for her outfits. To me, Michael has shown the most diversity of the designers which each week showing us something that was clearly different from what he showed the week before.

But the bottom 2 should have been Jeffrey and Angela, personally I wouldn't have cared which one they had booted.

6. Jeffrey's dress last episode...
The one made out of paper, was by far the best of the bunch. I actually would have worn that. Don't they take into account performance in the previous challenges?

8. Well yes and no
They did take into account with Kayne, which is why he didn't get booted last week for that crap he made. However Alison was also a consistantly top performer and they did not take that into consideration.

There is a belief that when a wack-job with nutty creations is up against someone who happened to have a bad week but is a bit more on the normal side, that they tend to boot the normal person off the show. It's a good show but they still want the ratings. In the last 2 seasons, usually one of the erractic performers somehow snuck into the final 3 although none of them have won

Vincent should have been booted ages ago. I can't believe you actually liked that Refridgerator Box he created last week (that's what Michael Kors called it)

10. Well, I wouldn't have worn it
But from a runway point of view, I've seen weirder things from big-name designers. I'll grant that Vincent's dress wasn't that wearable, but I appreciated his creativity and innovation. After all, all they had to work with was paper. And actually I thought the top of the dress was really well done, with its layered bodice.

the bodice was wonderful -- the only disagreement the judges really had was they thought it should have been a short dress.

19. Ramsey, it was a dress I could make
I can't sew or design worth a crap, I also can't draw either. My mentality with artwork and even with dress designing - if I could create it, it's not anything special. He wrapped a tube around her and then tossed confetti and weird clippings all over it. Hell I'll make one for you when I visit you in Tampa. I equate Vincent's recycled dress to a chef making a grilled cheese sandwich and claiming it's special because they tossed some bacon & tomato into it.

He really should have been booted last week. As ugly as Alison's dress was at least there was some creativity with the way she folded and draped it.

23. Allison's paper dress was truly awful
She made that tall thin model look fat, and as you know that is the ultimate sin! What did Michael Kors say, something about her being a cream puff?

I still say Vincent's paper dress bodice was very lovely and nicely designed.

wendy for my money didn't put out crap each week.

wendy, kara and jay were the right three for that project.

and wendy's banana republic outfit will go down as one of the best outfits ever designed for any project runway.

9. i loved michael's recycled outfit.
i thought it was brilliant.

and as far as his movie star icon outfit -- his -- i think -- hit the mark just about the best -- except for possibly kayne's.

i didn't like the whole disagreement between angela's mom and jeffery -- that happened just because he missed the questioning by tim gunn.

but michael kor's comment about jeffrey's dres ''comme d'garcon meets amish country'' was brilliant!

it looked just like an old comme d'garcon outfit.

15. He's got a good personality
I missed the first couple of episodes so haven't seen all his dresses. But Michael seems like a really good guy and obviously a good designer.

In the end it comes down to taste. Michael's looks are very solid. Personally, I gravitate towards fashion with a bit of an edge, thus I like some of Jeffrey's and Vincent's looks too. Even Laura's are OK, if somewhat conventional, but solid and classic (except for her "sailor resort wear" look, which was pretty hideous).

but michael the contestant is very rooted in american sportswear -- and does it with panache.

he's a strong contender i think.

Yes, he's fabulous.

Right now I really like Roberto Cavalli, Gaultier, Max Mara, Alberta Ferretti and Morgan le Fay (especially for cocktail dresses).

20. Michael made an absolutely beautiful dress strictly from coffee filters
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 10:40 AM by LynneSin
First episode they had to make the dresses from materials found in the apartments where they are staying. They basically took everything that didn't move and took it with them to the design studio. It was funny after the first night for bedtime the rooms were exactly how they left them. One poor guy had nothing more than mattress springs left on his bed.

Michael's first dress was a short, spaghetti string dress that had coffee filters folded and draped all over it - it was absolutely beautiful. Even for the week with the dogs, he designed this great tailored wool dress that in the back was cut-out and tied at the top. It was definitely a dress I would have worn.

I'm thinking Michael is going to win this one. Ironically the dresses he showed to get on the show looked more hip-hop video style then the classics he has put out now.

Now someone fix that damn tooth of his!

27. I would have thought...
...Jeffrey would have been booted solely because he blew off his client's wishes. That, and the dress was hideous. FWIW, Robert's client liked her dress.

Even though Vincent's an ass, the dress he made last night actually looked very good on Ulli's mom.

28. He blamed it on the colors
but to be honest, dark purple is not a bad color and hell, mixing it with green is a possiblity. Heck Uli took calico and strips and blended them together, why not dark purple and dark green.

I would have made her a dark purple tunic with matching pants and trim it with the dark green or another color that matched it, perhaps a print with matching colors.

29. I did think Angela's mom was being rather picky and critical
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 02:01 PM by Flaxbee
and then all weepy and whiny. It seemed like the show was set up to heighten the strife between Jeffrey and Angela. Oh well. Drama drama drama.

I haven't seen any other "reality" shows and probably never will, but I like this one because of the design challenge, that skills are actually required to move ahead (well, skills and personality).

Interesting to get some background on Jeffrey. He can be a boor, but I give him credit for getting his shit together, and he does have a lot of skill. The paper dress last week was excellent, though this week's really did nothing to flatter his model. He wiped away a tear when Robert was kicked out - don't know if he was just stressed out or upset that Robert was gone and he'd have to deal with Angela some more.

Michael's great, too, and very likable. He's definitely more of a classic designer and he does think about his designs - I thought the reversible dress idea was great, and works well for an "everyday woman" and/or for someone who has to travel for work--- makes packing and accessorizing easy. I love reversible blazers, sweaters, etc., so that kind of styling idea interested me.

I also really like Uli's work. It isn't easy to mix prints well, and she does it with a sharp eye. It'd be great for her to work for someone like Etro, a very high-dollar Italian print house. She thought about the striped pattern being used to elongate the torso, and used the stripe in a very complementary way.

Kayne's OK, has a terrific personality; he just seems to get carried away sometimes by the fabric and cut and flourish and embellishment and doesn't design for the challenge (though whenever he has to do a formal dress, he's great).

The rest are just sort of "eh", in my opinion. Angela's Audrey dress was very nice, and Vincent pulled a rabbit out of a hat yesterday, though it wasn't my favorite (I'd have chosen Uli to win), it was certainly a hell of a lot better than the other stuff he's put out the last few weeks. He looked like he was going to cry he was so relieved to have won a challenge. But Angela's outfit this week was silly - you could see Heidi staring at the bum-frill as Laura's mom walked down the runway.

Poor Robert. I liked him, personally, but he did not really innovate. I think he should have chosen a print of some sort to try to jazz things up, and listening to his exit interview, he does, too.

Laura's work is always good, but never very exciting. Ho hum. Great work wear, nothing I'd run out to buy.

I miss Alison, and Bradley's off beat humor, though I know Bradley definitely had to go.

I think Michael and Uli will be in the top three. Can't figure out who will be the third...

edited to correct names...

34. are they not showing us the scenes of Angela's problems with others ?
because from what i have seen i don't think she has been that bad. but she had problems with Vincent in the earlier partner challenge. i thought it was interesting that Vincent criticized Jeffrey for his attacks on Angela's mom because of this. and i think it shows Jeffrey was partly at fault for whatever went on .

it's funny when you compare the infighting to last year when one of the biggest arguments was a result of someone daring to pick someone elses model the next week.

i do think this year has had some very good challenges like regular people as models and the recreating fashion icon's looks in a modern way.
