The Mets magic number is 24.
That's all you need to know about the universe.

All other questions, be they scientific, political, ethical, artistic, pale before that fact.

1. Already?
What's Detroit's?

(If I try to look at mlb.com, it does nasty, horrible things to my computer. I've been going through mlb.com withdrawal.)

3. Thank you!
It's just that it doesn't seem possible that it's already nearly September. It can't be. The season's just started! I'm not ready.

Why does it take so damn long to go from October to February, yet April through October passes in the blink of an eye? It's not fair.

4. And they play Philly this weekend.
The magic number could be in the teens be the end of the weekend. I'll be at the game Sunday.

And someone stole my Mets cap from work. Wouldn't have happened over the last few years.

6. it sure has been exciting this year
but do you think our pitching is going to hold out? I know Heilman has improved, but can we really count on Maine?
What do you thing about the Green trade? I would have prefered they get another 2B guy to fill in for Valentine instead of Woodward who is usually a wasted at bat. Keep Endy and platoon him wiht Floyd. Hell, Floyd's gonna be gone next year so why is Willie worrying about his "feelings." I'd be more worried about losing Chavez. Lets see, you got an older guy with a bad achilles, and a batting avg that is tanking as opposed to a young player with a .300 BA and the ability to steal bases at will. He's faster than Reyes. I just don't get it.

8. Pedro's 40 year old calf and Glavine's 45 year old blood clot?
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 09:44 AM by GalleryGod
Who knows ? It's a clot folks...I hope he doesn't die on the mound.'
Anyhow...with the Lansman, Shawn Green, patrolling left in place of the simply awful Milledge..looks like a cake walk for the Boys from Queens.

9. cake walk to the series yeah
cause there really is no other national team to stop them...but once they hit the Series, we need to be able to pitch. One good thing is that when it gets to the series, there will be a DH so, we could use Floyd that way and keep Chavez in the field. I'm holding off on passing judgement on Green since his BA has been going down every month since May.

10. Chavez, I think, is this year's Lenny Dykstra.
Dykstra was Mookie's back up for much of the 1986 season.

I don't understand why anyone would contemplate putting Chavez back on the bench. I agree with you.

I think John Maine is a damn good pitcher. He had a bad night the other night, but that kid threw over 20 innings of continuous scoreless ball a little while ago.

There's been a lot of concern around the Mets pitching, but at the end of the day, the Mets, with guys like Bannister, Pelfrey, Perez and Maine have excellent long term pitching prospects.

Unlike the 1986 team - which burned out brilliantly after one blazing year - this team seems to have long term prospects. Through all of the challenges, all of the injuries and changes, they are rising to every occassion.

11. I think you may be right
and I think our farm system has been incredible with the talent it's produced. It's for the long term so we don't have to go out and "buy" a team like some do. I think it's better for the game & better for the fans to have a strong farm system.
