I'm 50, I'd lose it but my DH likes it. :eyes: Yeah, I get ponytails, but that's about it.
Note to self: ponytails-what an old word; that needs updating.

10. LOL! At about 15 years, I was infomed longer hair is
preferable (this is after I had it cut above my ears.) Ever since, I've tried to be nice. I grew it and mess around with it (though I don't know how to get rid of it when I want to, which is always because it's hot here), but other than the basics, I'm clueless.

11. I had long hair when I met my husband
and when I decided to cut it off he expressed disappointment. I told him he could grow his as long as he liked, but mine started to make me look witchy and was a burden. He understood I guess, I really didn't ask him. Look at it this way, it is your hair.

It's a silly fantasy anyway, don't ya think?

17. You can just get a few inches cut off.
It still won't be too short, but it'll be easier to manage. A decent stylist should definitely be able to do something you and your husband will like. If you don't like it, then at least you gave it a shot and it will always grow back.

There's a few ProHaircutters around in the malls here and they're $25 for a women's cut.

Granted, in Morris County, we tend to see a lot of Manhattan prices, but without any of the cool stuff Manhattan has.

23. If your layers get loose easily, maybe you could
try twisting the sides, holding the first with a clip and gathering sides with the back hair to put in a ponytail or put up with a claw clip. I had one that kind of blended in with my hair but I stepped oni it! One "tooth" broke, but I still use it.
- this shows what I mean by twisting the sides.
I know how you feel- getting the hair up off your neck feels so much cooler !

14. Depends
Sometimes I do the ponytail thing...sometimes I pull it back with a head band. Sometimes I french braid it or put it in a twist. Sometimes I leave it down and straight or I'll wear it down and curled.

Depends.

If you need a good REASON to cut yours, one that
no one can really argue with, try the one my sweetie used on me.
(I was opposed when she cut hers)
She sent it to "Locks of Love"; they make wigs for kids
who lose their hair to chemotherapy.

So you can cut your hair AND do something nice for a sick child;
no one can dare complain about that, right?

24. I have a similar cut to your's
Instead of a traditional ponytail, I wear it in a clip & let some of the front layers fall loose.

Sometimes I curl it & let more of it hang down, like this:

I love the versatility of the layers.

30. I just got mine chopped off a few weeks ago
But when it's longer I may pull it back in a ponytail, sweep the front back in a barrette, or pull it back and twist it up in a big claw clip. I'd love to do French-braids but I don't have the skill.

31. French twists, braids, chignons, Gibson flips, french tucks, snoods....
There's SO much I can do with it when it's long. I made a terrible mistake last year (about this time) and cut 14 inches off of it, leaving me with a short little bob. It's JUST to my shoulders now and I'm ready to do anything to make it grow faster.

Here are some ideas: http://www.longlocks.com/hairstyles.htm

33. Not Much!
I have waist-length (nearly ass-length; I need a trim) hair. I either do nothing (brushed back from the forehead, but no styling products to glue it place), wear it pinned up in front with a barrette, or wad it up in a scrunchie if it's hot. I don't do ponytails; my hair's too heavy.

35. I have the same problem
I tought having it shoulder length would be okay, but there are too many short pieces that make trying to keep it neat near impossible. I waver between short and long so often, but this time, I'm gonna get it cut pretty short. It's curly and wavy on its own (no perm) so it's easy to take care of when it's short--wash, scrunch and wear.

If it's on the back of my neck, it makes me sweat, so I can't really wear it long, so it's more of a bother. Keeping it short gives me more options in the long run.

i bought a big "card" of bobby pins and just stick a couple in it to hold it up

I have lots of different color combs too, but they don't work as well so I usually don't bother with them

edit to add after I saw your pic, a banana clip might work well for you too. I have several and they work well with a layered cut

39. Nothing because I'm inept. I'd like to learn how to do something
but I don't know where to look to find that sort of thing out. (hint hint, DUers.) Magazines sort of tell you how to do things, but not really. Or, they do but I'm totally inept so...yeah.
I tend to get a nice cut and just leave it at that. But, when that grows out a bit then all I have is the ponytail and maybe a bun (or something close to one) and I'm sick of them.

Good luck to both of us. :hi:

42. since you have layers,
twisting is a great solution since it picks up the short ends as you go and it's pretty easy to do. Once you get to the back, you can either pin up the ends or braid them.

43. I'm over 50
and have waist length hair. Most days I braid it and put it in a bun on the back of my head with hair sticks. On weekends I just braid it and let it hang down my back or pull it back in a ponytail. Very occassionally I will let it just hang free - it's fine and tangles pretty easily. For me, it's easier than having short hair which would require regular trips to the salon for trims. Now all I have to do is once or twice a year go and have it evened off at the bottom.

53. Because having it short
would require money to keep it looking half-way decent and time to go to the salon for regular trims, both of which are in short supply since I have a 4 year old daughter. Also, my husband and I do medieval re-creation and having real long hair means I don't have to worry about trying to fake it.

49. French twist more often than not
And I can play around with that a little bit by making small braids that go into the twist with the rest of my hair, or letting some of my hair fall out of the top of the twist (in which case, I like to have some of that hair crimped, but not all). I really like having french braid pig tails~ but I can't french braid on my own.

54. I usually put it in a twist and hold it in place with a heavy
barette or leather thingy. My hair is almost to my waist and very thick. My mom still asks me when I'm going to get it cut and I'm 54 years old :-).

Sometimes I just wear one braid, or braid it and fold it over and hold it in place with a barette. Occasionally, I wear it down and loose just to give it a break, but it's so thick and curly, it just goes anywhere.

I will never cut it short. I had it in a "shag" back in 1972. It is the worse cut I ever had and growing it out was just awful until it got past my chin.
