XM radio what is the difference in receivers?
I've been using Sirius for about three years and I want to switch to more democratic XM - which also offers Air America Radio.

Can anyone tell me what's the best receiver...What's the difference between Roady2, Roady XT, SKYFI, SKYFI2?

Thanks

3. I have XM but I don't understand your question
Can you explain what you want--do you mean in your car, your home, mobile?

9. My question simply, there are at least 4 receivers, which one...
Edited on Thu Aug-24-06 11:18 AM by GreenTea
is the newest model, which has more features, more versatile, etc...Does it matter what model I buy? Are they all about the same?

Again, I know everything about Sirius...Nothing about XM, except they offer AAR exclusively. and they donate prodominatly to the democratic party (Sirius doesn't).

15. Again, it will depend where you intend to listen to XM the most
There is a model whereby to you can listen to it in your car; remove that receiver and put it on SkyFi Unit (looks like a boombox) by Delphi.

4. Go here to XM site
They lay it all out for you...or head to one of the big box electronic stores, they sell XM products there too. I love XM, I listen online because I am out of the country for now.

6. I have a basic Roady and it's great.
They all receive the same. The more expensive ones have features like pause and replay functions, a stock ticker, streaming sports scores, etc.

7. What do you mean "more democratic" than Sirius?
I'm curious. Is it just because they have Air America, or is it something else? I have Sirius, but not XM.

8. XM gives 75% of it's political donations to the Democratic party. Sirius
on the other hand give 60% of their donations to the Republican party...Not a really big deal...But I really want to receive AAR...

Sirius offers a channel called "Sirius Left" with moderate to left-Ed Schultz, An uninformed-Alex Bennett, A very stange woman swearing at Bush like a salior-Lynn Samuels, more moderates who try too hard to be fair-The Young Turks, and only one hour of Thom Hartmann live, and the always laughing, insanely-Stephnie Miller.

17. oh
I thought you meant that their programming decisions were based on a wider input from viewers or something. I guess it was the small d that made me think that. Thanks for clarifying.

You're right. Sirius has three right wing stations and one liberal station. I don't know what XM offers besides Air America.

13. I have a Delphi MyFi
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006GFVPC/102-0363608-9246550?v=glance&n=172282

It's portable. You can walk down the street sans external antenna and it works fine.

The coolest thing about it is, since it will rebroadcast the signal it receives on any one of 8 FM frequencies....

I take my boom-box out to the patio, tune it to 106.9FM and set my Delphi MyFi on the the patio table and can manipulate the XM station I'm listening to without going near the boom-box. It works great.

14. PERFECT! I want one that offers vesatility-boombox, car & home cradles....
I wasn't aware there's a model one can walk down the street with...without a boom box...I love that feature and the reception without the plug in antenna is fine, and fits in to everything as well (Boom-box, home and car).

Great---Thanks ----Delphi MyFi----this is the answer to my question!!!!

16. There are updated versions of the MyFi.
So be sure to check those out. I think they're listed on the XM page as "XM2go".

I can only vouch for te MyFi, but will say that it's worked out great so far.

21. Pioneer Inno does the same also.

As others have said, there's other under the xm2go branding for personal satellite receivers

I suppose if Sony released one it'd be called a Satman.

18. I have a Delphi and I love it.
Not only can you walk around with it and use it in the car, but you can record up to five hours of programming to listen to whatever you want, whenever you want. My only problems with it, though, is that there isn't a place to store away something you may have heard and liked, like an MP3 player. And also battery life is just under five hours. I've got my eye on the Pioneer INNO. It's too expensive right now, but the prices will come down soon.

20. Depends on what you want.
For the car: there's various boxes that will make your car stereo ready to go. Also depends on how hard a fixing in the car you want. There's various kits that will make your existing radio work with XM - if all else fails the XM Commander or AGT Sportscaster are good choices to put in the vehicle. A RoadyXT is a good choice too.

For the house: Things are more limited here. High end Hi-fi's are selling equipment that is described as XM Ready - all you need to buy is a $50 add-on that gives your hifi XM. For most people, a RoadyXT and a Skyfi2 coupled with a home kit or even a boombox works OK. I have the older Roady2 and the home kit - and listen to XM through the FM radio. If you get some thin plastic-covered wiring, you can add some wiring to the satellite plug and that will allow the Roady2 to broadcast on FM to a much wider area than just the room that it is in. This of course breaks the Part 15 regulations but don't tell the FCC - I won't if you won't.

If you're used to an i-pod or (shock horror) a Walkman, there are various XM-2go radios that work like a walkman for radio, some record shows so work like an ipod. Unlike an ipod you can't take radio shows recorded and play them back elsewhere; they're only on the XM2go.

For me, if money wasn't an object, I'd go with the Pioneer Inno. It can be used at home, in the car, and it's portable.

/Mark.
