Just back from my trip to the East Coast
Edited on Wed Aug-23-06 12:49 AM by Erika
Flew to Portland Maine and stayed there for a day. Then spent the next night in Newton and on to Salem. Went on to New Haven and NYC. Then went to D.C.

I was shocked by D.C. We spent two days at the JW Marriot. The streets are full of the homeless. I got hit up constantly for cigarettes at the hotel, and solicited once for sex outside of the hotel. A young man insisted he accompany me back to my hotel room until I made it clear he better get lost.

I am shocked this is the condition of our nation's capital.

1. We were just there a couple of weeks ago and had the opposite experience
Staying at the Embassy Row Hilton by Dupont Circle. Of course, it was hotter than the surface of the sun at the time, which may have curtailed street activity somewhat. :)

6. Many cities have big homeless populations
the estimate in LA when I lived there was about 70,000.

DC has lots of poverty, and this condition is not new, by the way. Been around for generations.

8. That is sad about D.C.
Edited on Wed Aug-23-06 12:05 PM by KC2
I've heard a lot of stories about the there..very sad, and it's incredible that they don't try and do more about it, since it is our nation's capital.

Did you like Salem? I've always wanted to go there.
