"I'm from New Jersey"-
I'm from New Jersey
I don't expect too much
If the world ended today
I would adjust

I'm from New Jersey
No I don't talk that way
I watched too much TV
When I was young

I'm from New Jersey
My mom's Italian
I've read those mafia books
We don't belong

There are girls from New Jersey
Who have that great big hair
They're found in shopping malls
I will take you there

I'm from New Jersey
It's not like Texas
There is no mystery
I can't pretend

I'm from New Jersey
It's like Ohio
But even more so
Imagine that

I know which exit
And where I'm bound
The tolls on the parkway
They will slow you down

New Jersey people
They will suprise you
Cause they're not expected
To do too much

They will try harder
They may go further
Cause they never think
That they are good enough

I'm from New Jersey
I don't expect too much
If the world ended today
I would adjust
I would adjust
I would adjust

-John Gorka

5. The only place I've heard "Joisey" from....
...is someone trying to be funny, either in life or on TV. I've never heard anyone say it.

And what REALLY makes me mad is when people label all Northeastern accents (north Jersey, the Bronx, Philadelphia, Long Island, etc.) as "Brooklyn" accents. :grr: I wish I had a nickel for every time I've heard that pronouncement.

6. Hell, I live in Morris County now, but I'm from Hudson County.
I've actually had people randomly say to me, "you're from Hudson county, right? You have a Hudson county accent." I never even noticed it until people started pointing it out to me. Yeah, it is different though. It's more New York (probably due to proximity and the urbanness) than Morris County people.

8. I think I know the Hudson County accent, as some of the relatives are from
are from there and one of my long time colleagues grew up in Jersey City. There is a clear set of north Jersey intonations but I'd be lying if I said that I can tell the difference between Hudson and Passaic accents, for example, but northern Jersey accents are distinctly different from most NY ones.

4. I love John Gorka!
He's the one who thanked his parents for not mentioning a "real job" or some such thing when he decided to become a musician.

He also did a song in tribute to Italian girls. It was on his first album, I believe.
