Time to talk Grateful Dead: What's your favorite Dead song
I love their music but only ever went to one concert. Just couldn't get into the crowd but since I had nothing but a few beers in me - probably could explain a few things.

But I'm enjoying their music now with Ripple probably my favorite all-time song.

What's your favorite Dead song and how many concerts have you been too.

FYI: the Dead show I went to was the last concert ever held at the famous JFK stadium in Philadelphia (live-aid 1985 was there). It's now a parking lot for Eagles/Phillies fans

4. I don't know, it's a toss-up.
"He's Gone" is one of my favorites. Shakedown Street, I Need A Miracle, Ramblin' Rose.

The list goes on and on. Too many to decide.

And I saw about 25 shows in my day.

"St. Stephen"

"Unbroken Chain"

"Scarlet Begonias"

it's hard to narrow it down to one.

9. What mood am I in?
Melancholy>> Maybe Standing on the Moon?

Happy>> Eyes or Birdsong.

Can I cheat and go with something like Help>Slip>Franklin's or all of Terrapin?

I went to maybe 40 shows. I used to have a ticket collection, but I lost it somewhere along the way. My last show was Seattle '95.

All through the three day weekend, I went to the first one. Just weeks before Jerry died. Great daytime show, fantastic weather!

11. Truckin'... I hope I got the name of the song right.
I'm not a Deadhead by any stretch. Never went a concert, and they are not one of my top ten bands. Maybe not even top 20. But I do like a lot of their stuff.

So my choice is probably very conventional.

13. Here Comes Sunshine
is my favourite... followed by Ripple... then everything else.

During the late 70's I used to see the Dead (and the variants like the Jerry Garcia Band) every couple of months... they used to play Pittsburgh a lot... at two venues that I hear are no longer there... the Syria Mosque and the Stanley.

I saw Rat Dog (Bob Weir's band) about 2 years ago (first concert I had been to in about 20 years). It was just like going to a Dead concert... couldn't see the stage for the smoke and I really wanted to get the sound guy to take everything down about 30db.

Damn... now I'm feeling very old...

20. wang dang doodle
True story:

When I worked for the phone company I got to trouble shoot Bob Wier's home phone lines with Bob on the line a couple of times. one day we we waiting for one of the techs to finish a test Bob & I started chatting. I had just seen the Dead in what turned out to be their last concert in Golden Gate Park. Anyway in the middle of the conversation I said "hey you're in a band aren't you."

" Uh yea" he said.

"Yea," I said, " I just saw you guys at the park."

"you did?"

"Yea, you guys are a great cover band. I really liked your version of Wang Dang Doddle"

Bob started laughing up a storm.

21. "Throwin' Stones," if I had to name one
It's a lot less important today because of MP3s and download sites, but I still have some like 120 shows on tape upstairs -- in case anyone here is still into, er, 20th Century technology. DU mail me.
John
First show was at Tinley Park, IL in 1990 -- the last show Brent Mydland did before he died. All my other shows were at either Pine Knob or the Palace, here in Michigan. I've been to eight in total, and two Further Fests.
