Yesterday I received a catalog for $500 shoes.

This is a town where the most formal events are church on Sunday and maybe a high school concert. What catalogs have you received that are wildly off-target?

1. I received the "high-end" Wal-Mart Catalog

It had $15,000 plasma TVs and, I shit you not, an emerald and diamond necklace that was well over $500,000.

3. Yesterday I got a catalog (Wall Street) apparently aimed

at rich right wing fundamentalists. It wasn't clear from the contents whether it was aimed at people who worship Mammon or Jesus or both. It had frames authentic $1000 bills and sentimental (but very expensive) religious plaques praising God for blessings bestowed. As I said to my kids, rich right wingers must have some ugly stuff lying around their houses if this catalog is typical!

4. A buddy of mine has a HUGE (6' x 8') oil painting of Ronald Reagan

above his fireplace. So sad - this guy is only 37, and it's one of the tackiest paintings I have ever seen. And yes, he is an uber-wealthy Bush-licker.

2. I have gotten catalogs for fishing gear

or hunting gear. I don't do either. I don't have any idea what made them decide to send me stuff. I have also gotten catalogs for Lane Bryant and Lerner Woman. I was in Weight Watchers for a while but I was 20 lbs overweight, not enough to put me in the "Woman" cateogory.

5. I got one targeted to African-American females.

Had all kinds of products I just don't use. I passed it to an African-American friend, and she was very appreciative.

I also got a Neocon book club catalog from Americancompass.com (with bestsellers from Mann Coulter, Rush Limpballs, and Bill O'Lielly, for starters). I actually emailed the customer service dept. for that awful book club and told them in no uncertain terms to TAKE ME THE FUCK OFF THEIR MAILING LIST!!! :grr:

7. I love the books of Bebe Moore-Campbell and I've bought

several books about the history of slavery. Somehow that tripped a flag in a computer somewhere and I get all kinds of offers for African-American book clubs. I've also been offered memberships in various companies specializing in right wing literature because I've bought history books about the Founding Fathers!

6. I occasionally get catalogs filled with beauty products

Makeup, creams, lotions, none of which I use. I also get strange things like "Grandma's Attic" full of stuff that belongs in an attic (or a landfill) - tacky, horrible knickknacks and "collectibles", stuff that I'd never have in my home.
