I had to get a car to take me to the airport. I called the car service that my former company uses so I could get the corporate rate (saving about $20 each way) I told them I was a retiree...and they said no problem, I get the corporate discount. So I lied, I'm not a retireee, I got laid off, but I volunteered for the layoff so, in a way, I retired. Too much rationalization?

Usualy, these discounts are given so the company gets more business. They are still getting more business so I don't see a problem.

if you said I took a voluntary lay off, they would have said no problem.

On vaca in Florida, my husband said he worked for a hospital, and got a discount. In fact, there are always discounts-rental cars, hotels etc. , they don't volunteer them, but if you ask, you get it.

In this day and age, little peeps like us need to use every advantage we can to save a few bucks from the corporate coffers.
