Were Handkerchief's EVER A Good Idea?

since I have had this KILLER summer cold that I can't seem to shake, i've probably blown my nose 32,487 times. that got me thinking. men USED to carry handkerchief's in their pockets once upon a time. some probably still do.

why?

who the HELL wants to fill up a snot-rag and fold it up and put it in their pockets?

then what? you get home and throw it in the wash with the REST of your clothing?

1. Grandpa used to carry them.

One of his eyes watered quite a bit.

The disgusting part was he indeed put them in the laundry. Since he died, we, obviously, threw them all away.

2. They were the only option besides hands and shirt sleeves before

paper tissues came about. :P Ever wonder why jackets have decorative buttons at the sleeves? It started on soldiers' uniforms to keep them from wiping their noses on their sleeves. :yoiks: So yes, at one point in time, they were a good option. IMO they're not now, though. :(

I love it when one of the kids has something on their face and he whips that disgusting snot-filled thing out to wipe them with it. I'm like T J Hooker flying through the air to stop him from doing it. x(
