Kristen Miranda (Henrietta, N.Y.) -- Like many young brides, Gina Condello of Henrietta shared details of her wedding with other brides at the popular Web site, theknot.com. The idea is to help others, but someone used that information to play a mean-spirited prank.
Over the weekend, on a message board meant for family and friends to send good wishes, Gina got a disturbing posting from a stranger.
"
a lot of obscenities and a a message saying it would be sad if my wedding and vendors got cancelled,” she said.
Gina, who is getting married this Saturday, said she didn't think much of it. But, as she confirmed with her vendors Monday, she found that someone had called and canceled her wedding cake.
She made all of the calls again.
“Luckily, some vendors require you to come down in person and sign papers. But with other vendors, like the airlines--if someone knows know your name, where you're going and when, they can cancel your flight,” Gina said.
According to the Rochester office of the state attorney general, this is another example of why it’s important to guard personal information online. And in a case like this, the AG's office recommends contacting the Web site to see if they will help track down who posted the message.
