When is right to wear an undershirt?

With any dress shirt/polo shirt or just with certain ones?

1. I always wear one

Unless I'm wearing a t-shirt. I find it helps keep pit stains from appearing on the regular shirt (ok, thats gross but it's true).

2. It's ok with any collared shirt

Wearing an undershirt/tshirt under a collared shirt is always ok, but not always necessary. I think an undershirt under a polo shirt would be fairly stiffling in a high humidity high heat environment, so I wouldn't wear either. As long as you're climate aware I'm sure it'd be ok. From a light short sleeved collared shirt (something that breathes really well) with a light undershirt (that also breathes well, almost like an excersise shirt) for the hot occasions, to really anything for the colder.

It's always ok, but just keep the temperature and your comfort in mind as to what shirt and what undershirt you use.

3. When it's colder

and one shirt isn't warm enough?

I'm not a male, but this would be my guess. But then females nowadays barely even wear one shirt, nevermind two!

I would imagine, too, that if you work in a corporate environment, you would want to look presentable and I suppose having a white tee under your fancy and probably expensive shirt will keep it fresher longer.
