I just got the WILLIES!
Or possibly the heebie-jeebies. For no reason!

2. A heebie-jeebie in the bathroom is just bad for everyone involved.

4. Let's just hope that no persons of British extraction, or of any of the
commonwealths thereof, are going to find this thread. I mean, other than me -- fortunately, as is widely known, I'm not one to take advantage of such an opening (no broadly subject-related innuendo intended).

Cross-cultural translations can be rather unfortunate.

Whatever you do, please don't tell someone from Down Under "I'm rooting for you." :o

And, of course, there's that whole pat-on-the-fanny and fanny-pack thing...

8. When I first came to the US, I went in to a drug store and asked for a
rubber.

The (female....of course) clerk led me over to where they had them on display. I already knew the American meaning, through TV and film, but I just hadn't really thought about it when I asked the question. Sure, I guess you could prevent mistakes with those little things, but they sure wouldn't be much use (not without a lot of rubbing, anyway) for me purpose...what I wanted was an eraser.

Where I come from, we rub out our mistakes with a rubber. In the US, we erase our mistakes with an eraser. Same thing, but lots of poential for misunderstanding.

Just as well I realized my error...I can just see myself, slipping the little latex gizmos over my index finger and rubbing away, smearing my writing all over the page: "these Yanks really are nuts. There's an easier way."

5. Eww. That's like a yawn, now I got them, too...
I was trying to distinguish between a "willie" (or is it "willy"?) and a "heebie-jeebie" and I got BOTH.

Thanks! :eyes:

:D
