I think that after 10 pm you should be allowed to drink at work

especially if you work a "day shift" that ostensibly ends at around 5 pm.

if they're gonna make you hang out and do work late at night, they should let you drink on the job, and then they should provide a taxi to take you home.

My old job used to at least provide the taxi. And supper. But we weren't allowed to drink on the job. We were allowed to drink at happy hour and the parties AFTER work, if we were done working, but never WHILE working. Except a few times.

taps in the lunchroom. (He worked at headquarters as Distribution Coordinator/logistics) Then, somebody's husband was killed in a car accident...and that ended. You still got free beer after hours at the Brown Bottle though.

7. When I was in college in 1974

I worked for a semester at Heileman's Old Style Brewery in La Crosse and they allowed the workers in the plant to drink on the job. There were an awful lot of beer bellies there. I am betting that the insurance companies eventually had a fit over that practice and it stopped.

9. I worked second in a medical lab and regularly drank on fhe job.

I'd just bring in a bottle of orange juice that had vodka in it. But eventually they caught onto me because I kept mislabeling the specimens and just screwing up in general. The moved me onto first so I could be supervised (but I still didn't stop the vodka and orange juice routine), and then they just fired me. Thank God, it was for the best, I could have really screwed up someone's life with what I was doing.

They even kept the fridge stocked with several brands of beer.

Hell, they offered me a beer during my interview, I accepted the beer and the job offer.

Unfortunately they got bought out by a bigger corporation and all that ended along with the once respectful and productive atmosphere.
