Okay. Would you like to know WHY I am such a MATH BONEHEAD?
See this earlier thread if you like

There were two Oreos in a "Lunchable" thing I ate today. I didn't eat the Oreos. The label does not show separate nutrition values for each component in the package, and I wanted to figure out how many carbs & calories I actually did consume.

So I found the site that shows the nutritional values of Oreos. For this kind of cookie, the sample I found was a 4.5 oz package. I read the rest of the info and said, "okay, a serving size is four cookies."

Well, I just had my DUH moment.

The serving size is 30 grams, and servings per package are 4.

Now that I know I'm an idiot and can generally figure out how many carbs and calories I saved by not eating the Oreos, this is my next question:

Why wouldn't they just make the label read "serving size = 2 cookies?" Because two cookies roughly equals 30 grams! Or -- why would they weigh the package in ounces, but show the serving size in grams?

first follow-up comment: , math :dunce:, comprehension :dunce: -- and so bumfuzzled by counting carbs, calories, fat, protein, that I dream not only of these numbers but that the cats are throwing Coke and chips and cookies at me.

second follow-up comment:

1. Pfft. That's nothing.
If you really want to destroy your ability to perform simple arithmetic, study higher math.

At one point, I was sitting in a physics lab and I thought to myself "Which squiggley thing is the seven?" To my shame, I had to count the keys on my calculator to figure it out. I knew the Greek alphabet backwards and forwards, but I forgot the symbol for the @$#%& seven! *sigh*

5. There were only 10 number keys.
But yeah, it had a lot. I tend to use scientific calculators.

6. I always thought of scientific calculators simply as regular calculators
carried around in the plastic pocket protectors of geeks who spent a lot of time in the lab.

Bah. :hi:

7. I had 39 keys on my college calculator, the HP-41C
And that's a REverse Polish Notation calculator, too - powerful, powerful way to use a calculator, but takes some getting used to. Not to mention the programmability. :-)

This was the next one - it could actually integrate and differentiate symbolically, and graph it! It was phenomenal.

8. Yeah, the 28c is what I was using.
I sometimes wrote silly programs (e.g. curve fitters) to amuse myself.

3. Ah, come on Bertha, just eat the fucking cookies!
Don't you know that Oreos don't have any calories? Especially if you open them up and lick the creme out. Treat yourself, you're worth it.
