Mine actually try to figure out where I'm going and get there before me. Isn't too bad usually, except two of 'em are black and they try and do it on the stairs at 2 a.m. Or down the hallway...at 2 a.m.

Nothing wakes you up quite as quickly as the combination of a yowling kitty and the guilt that stems from making said kitty yowl.

Although there usually is that little time lag, like "Well, I was going to go sit in the living room for awhile anyhow, and your lap is convenient." The exception is the bathroom: I can't go *there* without cats appearing immediately, as if by magic. "Hey, lemme in! What're you doing? Huh? Huh?"

They follow my mom late in the afternoon, since that is dinnertime. They generally leave me alone. They're fairly aloof cats, anyway, except they like to inspect visitors to the house. :D

He'll beg to be let into my room, so i'll let him in. Then he'll start pounding on the door so i'll let him out. Then, after I let him out, hell beg to be let in again. God forbid I try to pick him up and pet him, then he will go run and hide under the bed.
Of course, if I ignore him, he'll start scratching the back of my chair.

30. Cool question. Just to share something strange...

This is kind of personal but it is absolutely true. About a year and a half ago (or, well, not long after Bush was re-elected) I lapsed into a very serious depression, and my cat began sticking to me like tape to a wall. I mean, he is a great cat, but it occurred to me that the more depressed and hopeless I was, the more he would not let me out of his sight. Even now, when I get a bit down, he tends to cling more than when I am doing really well.

stays in bed with me when I'm sick, if I let him. He gets up periodically to check on me - paws my face - gives me a little kiss and then curls back up next to me. He will stay for days if need be.

He started this when he was just a baby. The first time I thought he was getting sick but as soon as I got out of bed so did he.

my older cat needs to have wet food supplements, so I started giving them to him in the mornings. So now when I head in to the kitchen to make coffee and oatmeal, there is a chorus of demanding kitties, led by Thomas my senior cat who really needs the wet food. The little can gets divided by ever how many cats are actually there at the time.

and no one is allowed in the bathroom alone in this house, not no how, not no way. Sometimes all four are in there assisting me in whatever I do. The one way I know for sure no cats are in the house is if I am actually alone in the bathroom.

No human is allowed to be in a bathroom alone; all humans must be accompanied in the bathroom by at least one cat. Preferably, the cat should stare at the human while he/she does whatever he/she came into the bathroom to do. If the human should be so inconsiderate as to shut the bathroom door before any cats can enter, it is also mandatory for the cat to howl and slide his/her paws under the door and scratch it until the cat is granted entry.

Although if it's not morning sometimes he forgets to accompany me. He has to come in, brush his tail against my leg, get his little greeting and pet from me, and then he takes a couple steps to the door and sits there with his back to me waiting for me to come out. You know how they love routine! This reminds me that the first thing to do when exiting the bathroom is to fill cat's food dish -- he get his spoonful of canned food in the morning and I try not to let him run out of dry food.

THEN I have permission to make my way towards the coffee pot. . . .

Bird does occasionally.

Coltrane gets very upset when I go on the road. When I got back last week...he walked up to me...and turned right around and hid.

But after about a day, he became his usual self. Following me from room to room. Sleeping in my armpit. Playing fetch. He's real temperamental when I go on the road. Earlier this summer, right before I took off, he helped me find Bird who sometimes gets out and disappears. Coltrane followed me around the block...no leash. He stayed out of the road and was no more than 10' from me. He's by far the brightest cat I've ever owned.

Bird...sweet cat. Not very bright. Real talkative. He's our lovable little mook. If he didn't have Coltrane looking out for him, he would've disappeared a long time ago.
