I'm going to be "missing in action" on the DU (except for movie reviews) for the next couple of months because hubby and I have more than 150 Democratic folks in our home development to meet. We're determined to work hard for the November election here in Oregon. We'll be walking around to speak with folks between 6 PM and 9 PM as many evenings as we can.

My father, who was a councilman and vice mayor (as well as a judge) in North Miami, Florida years ago -- used to say:

"All politics is local."

We just have to get it done locally -- statewide -- and hopefully, nationally -- THIS FALL!

5. We missed the screening of "Hollywoodland" -- so, I'll have to see

it if I can when it opens. We've been on vacation in Seattle, WA and Victoria, BC, Canada -- but did get a chance to see "The Illusionist" and "Little Miss Sunshine," both of which I highly recommend.

The trailer looked pretty interesting, and I do remember the case of George Reeves decades ago.

4. I work at Warner Bros. and saw this movie about three months ago. I have

been telling everyone that this movie is a good one.

Ed Norton and Paul Giamatti are excellent in this film. The cinematography is outstanding and the setting is beautiful (Austria).

I recommend this film with two thumbs up!!

Jessica Biel shares the screen as the beautiful and enigmatic Sophie von Teschen, who finds her future inexorably altered when she encounters the man called Eisenheim.

Once Eisenheim begins to perform his astounding illusions in Vienna, word quickly spreads of his otherworldly powers…even reaching the ears of one of Europe's most powerful and pragmatic men, Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell). Certain that the illusionist is nothing more than an accomplished fraud, Leopold attends one of Eisenheim's shows, convinced that he can debunk him during the performance.

But when the Prince's beautiful companion and his intended, Sophie von Teschen, assists the magician onstage, Eisenheim and Sophie recognize each other from their childhoods—and a dormant love affair is rekindled. With Eisenheim and Leopold vying for Sophie's affection, it quickly becomes apparent that both will go to any length to claim and keep her love.

As the clandestine romance continues, Uhl is charged by Leopold to intensify his efforts to expose Eisenheim, even while the magician gains a devoted and vocal public following. With Uhl doggedly searching for the reasons and the man behind the trickery, Eisenheim prepares to execute his greatest illusion yet.

The Illusionist is written and directed by Neil Burger, who received acclaim and award recognition for his debut feature, 2002's Interview With the Assassin. The Illusionist features top-notch production values from a team of superlative artisans, including a haunting score by master contemporary composer Philip Glass.

12. I saw it last week...

it was just released here last Friday, and Mr. LD and I went to see it, and both of us really liked it. The filming was beautiful, the story good, and the score wonderful. 2 thumbs up here: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
