really been noticing this lately..no one says thanks..it's either a cheery "There you go." or the ever popular "You're all set!" Is it just me? I miss politeness...

phrases like that don't really bother me. If said with animation and sincerity, they beat a robotic, perfunctory 'thankyouhaveaniceday!' any time.

It is necessary in a job like that to vary the salutations you offer to customers. Otherwise, they'd all sound like the one above, or you'd go crazy, or both.

I often hear phrases like "There you go" or "You're all set" while shopping, especially for groceries. I always hear a 'thank you' to go along with it. Most people are just naturally polite. The ones that aren't don't last long in jobs like that.
