Smokers, I have a question for you
How long does it take you to reach into the place where you carry your cigarettes, remove a cigarette from the pack, put the cigarette in your mouth, return the pack to the place where it was, and light the cigarette?

Here's why I ask: I live in the South as you know, and I work in a store as you know. And I have noticed, for a very long time, that lots of customers will walk around the store with unlit cigarettes clenched in their teeth.

So I ask: how many milliseconds can a smoker save by carrying a cigarette in his mouth as opposed to just leaving it in the pack until it's time to smoke?

1. It seems like an eternity
I'm guilty of that practice. If I'm leaving my building I'll take my cigarette out in the elevator so I'll be ready for the sweet sweet nicotine rush the instant I'm out the door. Pathetic ain't it?

3. I use to do this from time to time

and I don't know why I did it, I just did... BTW, today is two weeks, smoke free!...:)

This whole smoking/nonsmoking issue reminds me of a south park episode I saw recently...about tolerance, and the kids went to a tolerance museum to understand how to tolerate different races/ethnicities, and everything was like...oh my, thats right, we are wrong to judge, this and that...and all of a sudden, the tour guide goes off

"What!! A smoker, in our museum, get the @#$#$ out of here you @$#$#$, #@$#$, @#$#$, @#$#@$#, @#$@%$@%$,"

It shows a man smoking a cigarette while sitting on a bench, and the rest of the south park kids, use the same language as the tour guide, telling the smoker to get outta sight, and die, blah blah blah...and then whammo...

Back to the intolerance museum...everythings hunky dory, calm....

on edit:grammar on my subject line.

4. When I smoked
the only time I did that was when I was trying to delay lighting it as long as I could. My way of trying to cut down, I guess. I'd wait till I got to the I-have-to-smoke-this-right-now-or-I'll-surely-die stage.

5. It's not always about the time saved
Sometimes it's a substitute for lighting up. I knew a man who never lit up but always had a cigarette or cigar in his mouth. I always thought of it as his adult pacifier.
