Yankees Sweep Bosox in Fenway (5 games)

The afternoon game today brought to a close the Boston Massacre, Part II. Yankees win 2-1, going 6.5 up on the Sox in the AL East, and putting the Sox 4.5 behind in the Wild Card standings, with Chicago staying strong and the Twins surging.

Ugly day for the Red Sox Nation.

and not to offend KC Royal fans, but I don't even know, logically, how the hell the Royals can even win a game, their line up...whew...weak as can be, pitching, two decent pithers...bullpen--->sucks...and they whoop the bosox! Makes no sense, but thats baseball for you...I remember a time, back in the mid 90's, when the M's sucked, but they would beat good teams, and then lose to all the crappy ones....makes no sense, but its baseball...:)

Sorry Bosox nation...but there is still a lot of baseball left...there is hope, but my M's are toast...:(

but seriously, how the hell do the yanks ever lose? damn, most teams are lucky to have 3 bonafide hitters, and if you split the yanks line up into three three man teams, you got a fantastic base to build a great team around...example

1. Jeter, Posada, Bernie Williams

2. Abreau, Giambi, Sheffield

3. Damon, A-rod, Matsui...

I can't even think of a NL team that has a bonafide 3 man lineup, that consistantly hit/power/onbase %...closest I can think of is, Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, but edmonds is recovering....whew, with a roster like the yankee's, how in the hell do the lose?...damn...:P

16. The fact that the Yankees don't win every year disproves your thesis

For however so much you imagine that they've "bought" an unstoppable team, the fact is that baseball tends to even stuff out, and the Yankees sometimes win, and sometimes lose, just like any other team.

It could also be that you're segmenting out what is a team operation. Is Posada as good as he is without Jeter? Is Matsui as strong without those who precede and follow him? You can't know. Besides, your line-ups are screwy. Williams hasn't played top-notch ball in two years or so, and was supposed to retire after last year. He is deployed as a utility player. Matsui and Sheff have been out nearly all season, which is why the Yankees picked up Abreu. Maybe the Red Sox should have tried to make some moves around the trade deadline so they wouldn't humiliate themselves in their own house this way, huh?

:) On paper, the yank's should never lose, but again, its baseball, and weird things happen...aka, yanks lose to marlins, and bosox get swept by the royals(worse team in baseball i think)....

I don't know about the segmenting...Arod was good, before going to the yanks, Abreu was, damon was, sheffield was..giambi was...Giambi/Arod were former mvps...I can understand your point of them being better, with the other talent around them, but a lot of them were good prior to becoming yankees...the exception, matsui, williams, jeter, posada, because they have been yanks their whole career(i believe!)...and you are right, I cannot know about them...but Giami, Arod, Damon, Sheffield, Abreu were all stars before going to new york...

I know Sheffield/Matsui have been out, and thats why the Yanks got Abreu, and from what I heard via espn, the bosox were trying to get Abreu also...things happen in baseball, that don't make sense. And the Yanks not winning world series titles, with that talent/team, is one of those things, to me that doesn't make sense, on paper, they should dominate, and cruise through teams, but again, they don't...but its apart of the game...

The Yankees go home empty-handed the vast majority of the time, no matter how much they spend, which is a tribute to the great and unfathomable game of baseball. It's not a power game, where you seize the other team by the throat and choke them to death like football or even basketball. A young Francisco Rodriguez can come from nowhere and dominate the postseason, Josh Beckett can take over a Series, a hearty band of idiots can shock a bunch of high-priced players who wilt in the clutch, etc., etc.

For the hard core Yankee Haters, the game itself takes a back seat to the importance of venting their own spleen. "I hate the Yankees, wah, wah, wah. We love our team and their fans only care about winning." Meantime, Red Sox fans are being duped by their owners, who charge the highest prices per ticket in baseball, are positively farting positive cash flow, and who can't add the extra year to a contract to keep Johnny Damon from solving the Yankees' leadoff hitter and center fielder woes. Keep Pedro, and Derek Lowe and you don't have to trade your top two prospects for Josh Beckett. You could even have something resembling a starting pitching rotation and a bright young team. But, no, it's more fun to scream about George's wallet.
