Poll question: "Wall of Sound" - Yay or Nay?
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 12:46 PM by Taverner
You know - that swelling of orchestration that destroyed "Let it Be" and Lennon's "Imagine" - only to be saved later by stripped down versions.

Also present in anything by Burt Bacharach - who, although was a great songwriter, tended to drown his musical food in this horrible musical mayonaise.

ON EDIT: Lynne, could you even imagine if Phil Spector got ahold of Led Zeppelin III?

2. Whether I liked it or not, I'd say yes, simply because of the attempt to
influence the poll :P

5. "The Long and Winding Road"
Right there is a fine argument for the summary execution of Phil Spector.

6. A resounding "yay"!
C'mon, "Be My Baby" is justification enough for the existence of the Wall of Sound.

Also, the fact that it pretty much influenced Brian Wilson and Pet Sounds...

8. Yeah yeah yeah "Pet Sounds"
But the clear difference is Wilson knew when not to use the WoS

Spector had no off switch.

12. Nay!! If it's a great song, the wall of sound just muddies it up.
Sometimes I have no idea I like a particular song until I hear it "unplugged."

14. Phil Spector is the only master of Wall of Sound.

McCartney ruined The Long and Winding Road.
