:wow:

:scared:

Be careful out there! And don't open the door for the pizza guy if you didn't order a pizza!

Though I gotta say, if he is the same age as the college kids, hiding among them during the first day of class when people don't know each other yet is pretty darn crafty.

And to the campus instead of heading for the highway.

Man Hunt in Blacksburg
August 21st, 2006
CT Staff

Virginia Tech has now reported there is not and never was a hostage situation in regards to the on-th-loose William Charles Morva. The suspect is expected to be armed and dangerous and his specific location is not known, although he is expected to be in Blacksburg. Since escaping from police custody at Montgomery County Regional Jail, Morva shot two police officers. The first, Derrick McFarland was shot Sunday and is in stable condition. The second, Colonel Eric E. Sutphin from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office was shot at 7:15 a.m. Monday by Morva on the Huckleberry Trail behind the grounds buildings. According to Sherrif Tommy Whitt of the Montgomery County Police Department, Witt said “thoughts, prayers, and sympathies to his wife and children.” Sutphin, 47, was a 13-year veteran of law enforcement. Larry Hincker, university spokesman said the staff at Squires Student Center chose to evacuate the building on their own and the suspect is not expected to be inside. However, Squires may remain closed for the rest of the day Meanwhile, classes at Virginia Tech have been canceled for the remainder of the day and students and faculty are asked to stay at home in their apartments or in their dorms. “This place is pretty well fortified,” Hincker said about the campus. However, he warned that students are much safer indoors. Morva escaped from custody of a police officer at the hospital while being trated. He was a prisoner of Montgomery County Regional Jail and was being held for Armed Robbery. The only time the campus has ever had a similar scare was about 15 years ago when a few people from a West Virginia jail escaped and were expected to potentially be on campus. Those suspects were never found at Virginia Tech. Anyone who sights Morva is asked to contact Blacksburg Police at 540.961.1150 or call 911.

When I was went to Tech in the '80s:

Did a -60 degree windchill close campus? No
Did two feet of snow coated with an inch of ice close campus? No

They really don't like to shut the school down.

19. Three years ago, when the town iced over four inches thick and solid
They closed the campus. Then they lectured us at every opportunity about how unusual it was. Then they kept it open when it iced over again, and there were lots of broken wrists. The Republicans blamed it on John Edwards, who was visiting that day.
