WOOHOO!! I climbed a mountain today!! (pics)
:bounce: :woohoo:

I promised my mom I'd go hiking with her today, so we drove up to Durango, CO and hit a random trail. (Actually, we got lost on the way to the trailhead we planned on going to because mom has no sense of direction :eyes: and decided on this one at random).

Starting out, the back of my shirt riding up into parts unknown

Scenery

The top of the mountain

Mom saw this part of the trail (a sheer drop on both sides) and refused to go any further

I made it!!

View of the city of Durango from 10000 feet (probably, I'm not sure what the exact elevation was)

:woohoo: :bounce:

1. I think you meant to say, "Mom saw this part of the trail (a sheer drop on

both sides) and refused to go any further. And that's when and where I killed her, You can tell by my face in the next picture."

Looks like fun!! I'd love to see Colorado some day. It's been a long time dream of mine.

4. No, she's still alive.
I have pictures to prove it; but I don't know if she'll want me posting them on the Internets.

Though she thinks I look like that shoe-bomber guy in that picture. :eyes:

7. Well, it also didn't help that the directions she got off the web
seemed to be wrong, too, but she had us going off toward Pagosa Springs for a while, anyway. :eyes:

And she wouldn't take another shot of the first pic because apparently "my butt's showing" isn't an acceptable excuse. :P

I seemed to have connection trouble while I was uploading the pictures to Photobucket. That might be it.

Thanks! :D

6. I love climbing mountains.
I haven't had time in the last year or so to climb. Man, I wish I could though.

Great pics, btw.

9. Nice ZN!
I've always wondered what would have happened if I'd taken that job out there. :(

It was good of you to spend the morning with your mom. You're okay. :)

11. I believe you climbed up what's called The Hogsback...I live about 1/2
mile from the trail...sadly Zombie you were only at about 7500 feet at the top...but that steep shale slope is scary...I usually go down it on my butt...

18. OMG, really?
Wow, I guess I was assuming Durango's higher up that it is.

Yeah, the last bits are pretty intense. I actually lost the trail near the top (it was about five feet to my left, but those rocks were in the way and I couldn't see :eyes:).

Yeah, I made much of the descent on my butt, too. :D

20. The trail really ends at the rocks..you can go down the backside and make
a loop...but the back side is really sketchy too. Glad you had a good day here!

and glad you got that first one to work!

Looks like you had a nice hike, and got some fresh air up there...in what is known as above the smog, but below the snow line! :hi:
